Samsung’s new UbiCell to improve cellular coverage

Samsung is announcing a new product, named UbiCell, this week at CTIA. It’s sole purpose is aimed at improving cellular service in consumer’s homes. This plug-and-play base station operates on existing broadband internet pipelines, allowing users to tap in to their own network without the need for new equipment beyond the base station itself. The basic idea is that this device will allow customers to eliminate their land-line services, fully replacing themwith existing mobile technology. Samsung’s own site doesn’t provide much clarification but, "Ubicell is a micromini BTS to provide CDMA 1x services at home. It enlarges CDMA service coverage to home at shadow areas by connecting with xDSL/Cable modem. It maximizes the frequency utility with small coverage and also give more benefits to customers with better voice quality than that using WiFi AP, and offers simultaneous service both outside and inside with one cell phone".
