Hot off their partnership with Dynamism, retailer Best Buy has acquired ISP Speakeasy. Purchased for $97 million, Speakeasy is one of the country’s largest providers of DSL service. Best Buy intends to continue to offer most of Speakeasy’s current services, with an increased emphasis on the companies Small Business internet connectivity program, which will be a welcome addition to Best Buy’s own small business services. The deal still has to go through the usual Federal oversight process, so don’t expect to see any real changes until Q1 of 2008 at the very earliest. With these recent mergers, partnerships, and acquisitions in their pocket, the natural question is: What’s next, Best Buy? Online HTC Vox Giveaways? Nah. We didn’t think so.
