Amp’d Mobile, using Verizon as it’s MVNO provider, has been issued a fine of $100,000 by the FCC. With it’s yearly earnings of around $5.1 million, this is a small blow to the company, but not something to be taken lightly. The fine is imposed for failing to protect consumers’ personal calling records from thieves. Security has become a big issue, and the FCC isn’t holding their hands. This is the fourth fine since the beginning of the year that the FCC has issued for such an infraction; at&t and Alltel are two of the companies hit with a similar fine back in January. Amp’d has 30 days to pay up or request a lower fee. Fees like this often increase cost to the consumers, not only because of the cost of the fine, but the costly measures that take place to avoid such a fine in the future.
