Intel’s current Core 2 Duo-based mobile platforms have revolutionized the mobile computing world, finding their way into everything from low-end generic notebooks, to top-shelf Apple portables. The platform’s balance of low power consumption combined with dual-core greatness has allowed manufacturers to significantly increase processing speed without sacrificing performance. Things move quickly in the processor world however, and Intel is set to release a successor. Dubbed Santa Rosa, this all-encompassing mobile platform features a number of enhancements, including integrated 802.11 a/b/g/n, a Crestline chipset, and optional WiMax and WWAN integration. It looks like the board will be shipping sometime in May, and manufacturers are expected to begin incorporating these pieces soon after.
