The two absolutes in life are death and taxes. Typically not looked upon as things that come easily, but now paying your taxes is as easy as sending a text message, at least in the Philippines. The Bureau of Internal Revenue in the Philippines has partnered with Globe Telecom and Land Bank of the Philippines to allow up to $281 (R10,000) of personal income taxes to be paid via text message. The service is called PAYBIR, and is a first of it’s kind. Don’t expect anything like this in the the US in the near future, we’re still pretty behind the world in terms of paying via cell phone. This will also make you think twice about who you lend your cell phone to. Don’t want to end up paying for someone else’s taxes as well.
