Time Warner Users Get Hot Spots
Time Warner has partnered up with Fon to allow home users to setup their home internet access as a Hot Spot. A La Fonera 802.11b/g (54Mbps) router costs $39.99, but allows you to then share your internet connection with passers by for a fee. They call people who are sharing their connection a Fonero. As a Fonero you can throttle how much bandwidth they use, and even take 50% of the amount paid by the person using the router. The charge is $3/day, giving the Fonero $1.50/user. This is significantly less then Starbucks partnership with T-Mobile, which charges $10/day. As a Fonero you also have access to any other Fonero’s access for free. Other ISP’s like Comcast frown upon this sort of behavior, it’s great to see companies like Time Warner that get it.
