Onkyo unveiled a new home theatre centerpiece unit today during a press event in Jersey, and it looks to be one hell of a receiver. As far as HD receivers go, this one has it all like, ethernet for streaming audio from your LAN, and a USB port that will read MP3s off an external hard drive. This THX-certified 7.1 channel powerhouse is most notable, however, for it Reon-HQV video processor. This is the same chip currently being used by Samsung and Toshiba in their best-of-the-bunch HD DVD and Blu-Ray players, and is widely regarded as one of the best upconverters on the market today. Any and all video that passes through the TX-NR905 will receive the Reon treatment, which outputs the upscaled 1080p video through a standard HDM port. Expect a retail release sometime in May for $2099. I have a good friend who must be jumping up and down right now at the site of this. If only he had a blog I’d link to him.
