Symbian S60 hits the 100 million user mark

These recently released numbers solidify Symbian’s stronghold as the most widely used mobile operating system on the planet, with now over 100 million S60-based handsets shipped to date. Over 57 different S60 handsets have been produced, with the majority running S60 3rd edition. Despite its relatively anemic adoption here in the states, the Nokia-developed and licensed OS has an enormous worldwide presence. Symbian is widely heralded for its stability, multimedia capabilities, and web browsing. For my money, I’d rather have a task-specific OS such as the BlackBerry platform, or even the world’s greatest compromise, Windows Mobile, but I doubt my hesitance to jump on the Symbian wagon is causing any Nokia execs to loose any sleep.
