Take this one with a grain of salt, seeing as it’s coming out of Ireland, a country known for its U2 and beer, not for its rhetorical prowess. Nonetheless there may be some credence to a report released by the Irish State Commission which found text messaging to be a serious threat to standard English writing conventions and grammar. The report combed through final exams from a large number of Irish 15 year olds, many of whom used frequent abbreviation and slang in place of real words. It seems that the only real solution here is to outfit everyone with full QWERTY devices. Problem solved. See guys, simple!
