A new survey by iCrossing, a research firm dedicated to exploring the way Americans search the internet, has released a report outlining mobile search habits. The results are interesting, if not entirely surprising, with Google garnering over 90% of all searches initiated from a mobile device. This is pretty much on par with their share of the desktop search market, as the report indicated that people tend to stick with a given search provider at home and on the road. It also states that 87% of people searching the internet with their mobile device prefer to do so because it’s convenient. Only 28% of those polled experienced "good results" from their mobile searching. Google is clearly a mobile powerhouse, with it’s current suite of mobile specific services including a free 411 number, Google Maps, GMail Mobile, and SMS-based search and information. AOL, Microsoft, and Yahoo are in need of some serious improvements and brand recognition if they have any hope of competing.
