Zune enjoying success despite its flaws

It seems like the Microsoft Zune, the little MP3 player that could, is doing a lot better than anyone expected. On Wednesday Microsoft announced that the Zune has been "holding steady" with over 9% market share. This places it as a distant second behind the iPod. Though it may have a long way to go before coming anywhere near Apple’s current market dominance, this is a sign that things aren’t quite as dire as they might seem. The Zune has been widely criticized for everything from a clunky interface, to poor syncing, crippled Wi-Fi, and the list can pretty much go on. Recent improvements to the Zune sync software and music library have helped things along. Microsoft is also releasing a number of limited edition models, as well as multi-colored Zunes, much like Motorola has done with their only phone the RAZR brand. Only time will tell if this strategy will secure them a long term foothold, but one things sure, Microsoft has the money to play in any game they want.
