Microsoft to ship 20 million Windows Mobile units in 2008

Perhaps this is a sign that Microsoft is recognizing the need to diversify in light of their Vista disaster problems. The software giant today stated that they are aiming to ship more than 20 million Windows Mobile licenses during the 2008 fiscal year, which actually begins this July 1st. This would effectively double the number of Windows Mobile devices currently in the hands of consumers. Speaking with the Dow Jones Newswire, Senior VP Pieter Knook expressed a desire to expand beyond its HTC base to include more and more Motorola and Samsung models that sport the WM6 infrastructure. In a dig at both RIM and Symbian, Knook stated that Microsoft is the only mobile software company that has doubled their user base 4 years in a row. No word on whether the telephone interview had to be cut short so Knook could reboot his TyTN…
