Microsoft shopping for an ad firm of its own?

It looks like Microsoft is feeling the heat from the recent Yahoo and Google acquisitions. Not eager to be known as the last kid on the block without a new advertising-centric merger, Microsoft is rumored to be in talks to bring 24/7 Real Media under their wing. The NY Post is reporting that the Redmond giant is preparing to offer roughly $1 billion for a complete buyout, a significant increase from the company’s reported value of $600 million. This move wouldn’t be too surprising, as Microsoft is currently the only major search provider without an associated major advertising company, something that seems to be increasingly necessary in the race to monetize the entire internet.
