Korean teenagers like to text

According to a recent study, Korean teenagers between the ages of 15 and 19 years old send an average of 60.1 text messages per day. That’s almost 1800 SMS messages a month! Things get a bit more manageable with the 20 to 24 year old set, amassing a more reasonable 30.9 per day. The most remarkable part is that text message use among Koreans in general seems to be increasing, with the thumb-numbing trend apparently spreading like wildfire. Not surprisingly, incidents of Carpal Tunnel syndrome are also on the rise. We can’t speak for the average American user, but seeing as most text messaging packagings come with 200 to 2000 messages, it’s reasonable to assume that the U.S. average is significantly less. While I consider myself to be an above average cell phone user, the fact is that I don’t think my thumbs could take that much tapping. Now I wonder what the Korean equivalent of LOL is?
