Playstation 3 could get cheaper

Blue lasers, you say? Outside of my light saber role playing, what does that have to do with my gaming experience? A lot. Blue laser pick-up heads are expected to decrease in price as demand increases over the next several months. The pick-up head, or PUH, is an integral part of any High Definition optical drive, including that of the Playstation 3. This means that as the price of a major component of the console goes down, the potential for the retail price to drop is possible. While consumers are unlikely to see the full reward of the $100 wholesale price drop, a decrease of $50 or so would certainly be welcome. A cheaper PS3 could have an exciting effect on the next-gen Console wars, a battle that Sony appears to be losing at the moment. Whatever the effect of this change in part costs, it’s clear that Sony needs to do something in order to salvage some dignity sales.
