Nokia cares about the environment

Nokia is on a mission to make mobile phone use more energy effecient, and we think you should pay attention. The have just announced plans to include energy saving alerts in their upcoming handsets. The alerts will sound when the mobile phone has completed charging, reminding users to unplug their handsets once they have acquired a full charge. The alerts are not only intended to get you to unplug your phone from the charger, but also to encourage you to unplug your charger from the wall, an act that Nokia claims could save enough energy to power 85,000 homes year. The first phones to include these features will be the Nokia 1200, 1208, and 1605, with the remainder of Nokia’s lineup to receive the alert system down the road. This is certainly a positive gesture, but it remains to be seen if it will actually affect people into unplugging their phone chargers each night.
