Rolling Stones edition BlackBerry

Did you know that RIM had planned a Rolling Stones BlackBerry device? They even paid the band’s licensing firm RST Inc. the initial licence fee in full. Now that RIM has decided not to release a Rolling Stones device, RST Inc. is suing them. Research in slow Motion is no novice when it comes to the lawsuit department, paying $612.5 million last year to NTP, yet this is a pretty different path from a patent infrigement. The terms of the licensing deal haven’t been disclosed, but it is apparent that RIM decided that it wasn’t the way they wanted to go. Keep turning down celebrity endorsements guys! What I’m guessing had likely happened was RIM guaranteed the Rolling Stones a certain advance royalty figure in addition to their "licensing fee". It would have been stupid for RIM to not put a clause in saying if "x product wasn’t released under x number of months", the contract would have to be renewed by both parties or something to that affect. Who really knows, but the Rolling Stones are using Cingular Blackjacks now. Karma is a bitch.
