LG slows down plasma screen production
Life can be so cruel sometimes. It looks like LG might have overestimated the demand for its line of plasma TVs. The company has announced that it will cease plasma production at one of its largest production plants. This moves signals a lack of demand in an ever growing, ever more competitive market, and does not bode well for LG’s future in the big screen television sector. An influx of generic brand product means that plasma screens have recently begun to sell for bargain basement prices, making it almost impossible for top shelf manufacturers to make as much profit as they’re traditionally used to garnering off of high end items such as big screen TVs. While this is a blow to the Korean electronics powerhouse, we doubt that it signals any sort of irreparable damage. On the flip side, if LG feels like sending any of their excess inventory stateside, we wouldn’t be opposed to hooking up a new 42 incher at BGR headquarters…you can never have too many plasma screens…that is, because they all burn in.
