ByeBye 17″ iMac

So long, 17" iMac. It’s as if we hardly knew you. Apple has End-Of-Life’d the smaller 17" version of their consumer desktop series. The mid-sized Mac could well be put to rest in June as the company makes way for an updated iMac line. According to Apple, the cost differential between 17" and 20" LCD screens has become so minute that they can no longer justify having the smaller screen in their stable. This could mean one of two things for consumers. Either there will be a bare bones 20" version at roughly a $1000 price point to fill the 17" gap, or Apple will no longer be targeting this market with their iMac line. It’s too early to make any assumptions, but my money is on the latter. If this does turn out to be the case, and you have $1k with "iMac" written on it burning a hole in your pocket, you best run to your nearest Apple retailer before the end of this month. If you’ve got a bit more coin, however, we suggest laying low and waiting to see what the impending update brings us.
