Don’t you just love these white boxes that the protos come in? The HTC Elf guys — it’s really hot! As usual, leave it up to HTC to try and push the Windows Mobile bar a little further. When I first put my SIM card into the phone and booted up, a little on screen pop-up showed asking me if I’d like to automatically configure network settings. Sure, why not. After the quick reset all network-related functions worked perfectly on AT&T. Sadly, the HTC Elf does not have 3G but rocks a quad-band GSM/EDGE flavor. We’re looking at an OMAP850 201 MHz processor, 64MB of RAM, w128MB of flash ROM, and a 240×320 screen. The navigational controls are really solid, except you won’t find standard "Start" and "OK" keys on the front, just send and end buttons. The Elf will ship with the now standard Windows Mobile 6 OS. One nice HTC improvement is a drop down box in the upper right corner of the screen. Just click it, and it will drop down a list of running programs with an option to stop all, or you can selectively click the "X" next to an application to permanently close it. The camera is a 2 megapixel shooter which looks to be pretty good. The music side shines pretty well for our little Elf because the speakers rock! We’re giving the HTC Elf 3.5 BGs.
