The fallout from Amp’d Mobile’s bankruptcy filing has had some unforeseen consequences. The NY Times is reporting that the MVNO’s financial issues may have slowed the onslaught of carrier supported porn. Amp’d had apparently discussed the possibility of serving up some adult content alongside their more G-rated downloadable content. This was proposed during a meeting with industry analysts in March. This is in sharp opposition to the bigger carriers, all of which have pledged to hold off on offering pornographic content until a viable age check process has been implemented. Age verification or not, it’s certainly possible to get your mobile hands on some questionable content. Carrier support, however, would certainly make things easier on the cell phone having, porn loving public. Thanks a lot, Amp’d. You’ve ruined our year.
