Waterloo-based and our best friends, Research In Motion, today announced the BlackBerry 8130 for CDMA carriers. This marks the first CDMA BlackBerry Pearl, delivered to market just over one year after the original launched on T-Mobile last Fall. The phone brings with it a host of upgrades, EV-DO high speed radio notwithstanding. The device sports a 3.5 mm headphone jack, built-in GPS (likely disabled on Verizon’s offering), the highly anticipated A2DP Bluetooth profile, and an overhauled interface complete with browser redesign and streaming video support. The media player gets playlist functionality, a feature requested by many a BlackBerry users across the globe. With the 2.0 megapixel camera that comes with video recording capabilities, it becomes the first BlackBerry for CDMA networks that offers digital photography and the first BlackBerry across the board that offers video capture and recording capabilities. All told, this is a suitable upgrade for handset that was getting a bit long in the tooth.
