iPhone 1.1.1 jailbreak!

We knew that it was only a matter of time before the shackles were lifted from Apple’s recent iPhone firmware update, but we’re nonetheless pleased to announce that the iPhone is once again free! The crazy folks over on the iPhone Dev Team have managed to Jailbreak iPhone software 1.1.1, which is a major step towards regaining access to those 3rd party apps we so longingly miss. According to Erica Sadun, the current jailbreak allows for the installation of 3rd party apps (though most will need to be recompiled for the new software build), 3rd party activation, and much more. Sadun is quick to point out that this Jailbreak method is not ready for mass consumption quite yet, but given the level of dedication these guys have displayed thus far, we wouldn’t be shocked if a cleanly packaged solution became available in the near future.
