Australia proposing to ban plasma TVs

We doubt many Aussie readers jumped at the cheap Philips options here in the US last week, but if you did, you might be facing some issues in a couple years (assuming the TVs held up long enough). Due to their "energy guzzling" nature, Australia is looking to ban plasma (and even some LCD) screens sometime before 2011. It’s not the plasma itself, but the lack of energy efficiency. The good news, is that 4 years is an eternity in tech terms, so the chances that something new and sufficiently efficient will come along between now and then is highly likely. And, with the likes of things such as OLED on the horizon, the chances are better than average that Australia will still be able to keep up with the Joneses, tech-wise, that is.
