We’re not quite clear on the purpose of a video game soundtrack that consists of music different from that of the actual video game. Apparently Microsoft does. The company announced the official soundtrack a couple of days ago, and dropped a bit of a surprise into the mix. They’ve offered 3 slots on the soundtrack album to the highest bidder. This effectively gives unsigned and emerging groups the opportunity to earn a slot on a high profile record. In addition to a place on the album, each of the top 3 groups will receive a Halo 3 prize package that includes a Halo 3 Xbox 360, a Halo 3 Zune, and a couple other bits of swag. Great, but do you really want to be know as "that band on the Halo soundtrack"? Yeah, we didn’t think so.
