With WiMax popping its head into the airwaves, Lenovo has decided to start adding WiMax to its notebooks for high-speed ‘net access. This is pretty snazzy news for those of us using air-cards from carriers wishing for just a little boost in data-transfer speeds. Available immediately are the ultraportable ThinkPad X301 notebook, the ThinkPad T400 notebook, the ThinkPad SL300 and SL500 notebooks – all WiMax capable. Later this year, we can expect to see the WiMax capabilities extended to the ThinkPad W500, W700, SL400 and X200 notebooks and the consumer-oriented IdeaPad Y530. But are you thinking what we’re thinking? WiMax isn’t widely available yet! For now, it’s in very limited markets with Sprint’s XOHM WiMax making its debut in Baltimore last week. Unless you want to brag to your friends that your notebook is WiMax capable (and hear them giggle underneath their breath for thinking you’re crazy), you might want to wait until WiMax hits your market. After all, it’s going to hit a few major cities over the next few weeks and it’s nice to see Lenovo preparing itself.
