Apparently HTC got a bit caught up in the spirit of the holiday season because a sweet little easter egg has just been uncovered that is sure to excite all you US HTC fans out there. That easter egg — 850 / 1900 MHz UMTS bands! It seems HTC has been holding out on us and hiding away a North American version of it’s sexy Touch sequel. So why didn’t HTC make it known that the Touch HD packed AT&T-compatible 3G? It was a surprise for the holidays obviously! Umm, no. The company probably just didn’t want to piss people off since it has already made it known that the Touch HD will not be coming to the US. Now before we get ahead of ourselves, it’s entirely possible that the manual refers to a build of the handset that was canned prior to production. While there have been reports of people getting 3G reception with the Touch HD here in the US, it’s entirely possible that they were using the Telstra version which packs 850 / 2100 MHz UMTS. Either way, if it works it works. We still expect HTC to stand by its announcement, meaning we aren’t ever going to see a carrier-subsidized version of the phone – you may however, be able to snag an import with full-on 3G at some point.
