Grab some popcorn and pull up a chair, because today Nokia announced it has challenged Apple to yet another round of legal fisticuffs having filed suit against the Cupertino company in the Federal District Court in the Western District of Wisconsin. At the heart of the lawsuit are five patents which Nokia claims Apple is infringing upon with iPhone and iPad 3G. Said Nokia’s press release: “The patents in question relate to technologies for enhanced speech and data transmission, using positioning data in applications and innovations in antenna configurations that improve performance and save space, allowing smaller and more compact devices. These patented innovations are important to Nokia’s success as they allow improved product performance and design.” Apple and Nokia have been trading legal blows against one another for quite some time and it comes as no coincidence that this lawsuit coincides with the launch of the iPad 3G. Apple has yet to publicly comment on the lawsuit, but we’re sure its response will be as snarky as ever.
