Take this with a handful of salt pills…according to a hot new rumor, Verizon has tapped advertising firm Landor Associates to handle a summer advertising blitz for the launch of a CDMA iPhone. Landor, the people behind the BlackBerry logo amongst other things, are said to be focusing on the branding side of things while TBWA — the firm that has been handling all of Apple’s iPhone commercials — is likely to continue its role. Rumors of the iPhone heading to Verizon have existed for what seems like time immemorial — remember that it was Verizon which declined the original iPhone before it went to Cingular AT&T — and culminated this past March when The Wall Street Journal claimed it had confirmed a new iPhone will indeed be carried by Verizon before the year’s end. Of course, now that we’re positive AT&T inked a 5-year iPhone exclusivity contract with Apple, we have to hope that the contract is null and void for this rumor to become a reality. Let’s just hope for the sake of healthy competition that this all pans out. Wouldn’t that be something?
