AT&T support page shows Captivate running Android 2.2, proves it’s possible

If you’re a Samsung Captivate owner that is feeling as though both your carrier and manufacturer have forsaken you, cheer up. We have a very small, very dim, ray of hope for you. One of our astute readers pointed out that AT&T’s support page for Sammy’s Captivate, the one that explains how to find your operating system and firmware versions, actually shows the device — complete with TouchWiz — running Android 2.2. Samsung released the Galaxy S over seven months ago, promising its users a quick upgrade-path to Froyo. Currently, with Android 2.3 in the market and Android 2.4 on the way, the company has yet to provide the update to several of its U.S.-based Galaxy S handsets. Hopefully, this screen shot is an indication that the upgrade is actually on the way.
