We do not expect Apple to announce the high definition television it is widely rumored to be working on during the annual Worldwide Developer Conference later today, however the Cupertino-based company could begin to lay the groundwork for the device. BGR reported last month that Apple may demonstrate a new version of its TV operating system during its WWDC keynote, and the company is expected to finally allow third-party developers and manufacturers to develop solutions for its Apple TV set-top box. Such a move could be made in part to ensure that a variety of third-party apps are available ahead of its HDTV launch. Various details surrounding the rumored “iTV” have been reported by a dozen or more sources over the past few months, and now some new purported details have emerged from Taipei.

Following a trip to Computex and meetings with unnamed supply chain sources, Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White offers a few interesting details regarding Apple’s upcoming television.

While the analyst fails to elaborate, he says Apple’s upcoming HDTV will feature “a special type of motion detection technology,” suggesting Apple may utilize gesture controls unlike those seen in upcoming HDTV models from the likes of Samsung and LG. White also claims Apple’s television will ship with a unique remote control equipped with a touchscreen, which might be an odd additional expense for the company considering the likelihood that users will be able to control the device with Siri and a new remote app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

“Regarding Apple TV, the data points during our trip indicate the company will use a special type of motion detection technology on future full blown Apple TV that we expect to be unveiled within the next couple of quarters, rather than touch technology,” White wrote in a note to clients on Monday. “Also, our contacts indicate a unique remote control with a touch panel form factor that looks similar to the iPad would be used to control the device. The bezel is expected to be a plastic composition, rather than the aluminum unibody exterior that surrounds the MacBook Air.”

Apple’s HDTV is expected by some to launch later this year or early in 2013, though one report suggests it may not hit the market until 2014.
