Apple on Monday showed off the next generation of MacBook Pro computers, complete with Retina displays, at WWDC 2012 in San Francisco. The new laptop will feature a display screen that is 15.4-inches wide and features an industry-best 2800 x 1800-pixel resolution, or 220 pixels per inch. To make things even more enticing, Apple says that it has reduced the glare on its new screen by 75%.

The next-generation MacBook Pro will be 0.7 inches thin and will weigh less than 4.5 pounds. It will be powered by an Intel Core i7 quad-core processor that clocks at 2.7GHz with Turbo Boost up to 3.7GHz, will feature 16GB of memory, 1600MHz of RAM and up to 768GB of Flash storage.

The new Pro has a battery life of 7 hours, with up to 30 days of battery power on standby. From a port perspective, the new Pro has an SD slot, HDMI, USB 2 and 3 ports on both sides, and two Thunderbolt ports, one for FireWire 800 and one for Gigabit Ethernet. Pricing for the computer, which starts shipping today, starts at $2199.

Apple went out of its way to show the Retina display’s graphics capabilities by showing several apps and games that had been optimized for the new MacBook Pro. Among the programs shown during the WWDC keynote today were Blizzard’s Diablo III RPG, Autodesk’s newest version of AutoCAD, Final Cut Pro and Adobe Photoshop. Apple also says that it is working with multiple developers to help them update their applications for the new MacBook Pro display.
