Microsoft plans to unveil an own-brand Windows 8 tablet on Monday that will mark the company’s entrance into the media tablet market, a report claims. Citing an unnamed source, The Wrap reported on Thursday that Microsoft intends to compete with Apple’s iPad and Google-powered Android tablets not only as a software vendor — potentially pulling in $85 or more per Windows RT license sold — but also as a hardware vendor. Microsoft is holding a press conference on Monday, and while the company did tease a major announcement, the focus of the event has not been disclosed. An earlier report stated that the Redmond-based company plans to show off multiple Windows 8-powered tablets during its press conference, which takes place just two days ahead of Microsoft’s Windows Phone developer summit.
