There is always time for more rumors… 9To5Mac recently published a report claiming that Apple’s (AAPL) 9-pin dock connector will be known as “Lightning,” and will be announced alongside the iPhone 5. The name is said to be a reference to the faster read and charge speeds associated with the connector, while relating to the faster Thunderbolt ports found on a number of Mac computers as well. The site notes that Apple’s redesigned in-ear headphones are set to be announced this afternoon as “Earpods,” and it also says that iTunes 11 will be released today as well.

In a last-minute note to investors on Wednesday, Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, per Mac Rumors, revealed key details about Apple’s upcoming iPod touch refresh and believes it will be the “biggest upgrade ever.”

The device is rumored to be equipped with a 4-inch display, Apple’s A5 processor, GPS and a high-definition FaceTime camera along with a “significantly upgraded” 5-megapixel rear camera. The latest iPod touch is also said to have the ability to function as a game controller for other devices such as a Mac computer or an iPad.

Apple is expected to announce a larger, slimmer and faster iPhone, among other products, in just a few hours. Be sure to stay tuned to BGR.
