In the Windows vs. Mac wars, the Apple fanboys now have another reason to gloat: Apple just last night updated Boot Camp to support Windows 7. Along with this update came the year’s first security update, which supposedly addresses 12 security vulnerabilities. Boot Camp version 3.1 supports the 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 users and Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate are supported as part of the update, too. With the upgrade in software and support for new drivers and utilities, if you need Windows ...

AT&T isn’t the only one enjoying lower prices on BlackBerry’s latest handsets. T-Mobile is now offering the Bold 9700 for $129.99 and the Curve 8520 for $79.99, like we reported in a Whisper a little whle back. If you’re a hardcore BlackBerry user and you haven’t upgraded to a trackpad-equipped device yet, now is the best time to jump on the bandwagon. Of course, T-Mobile’s pricing is still slightly higher than AT&T’s at $30 a piece, but if you’re tied to T-Mo...

Verizon couch potatoes throw your hands up! If you have a DROID or Eris on Verizon, and you’re a FiOS customer, you can get FiOS Mobile on your phone now. You can check TV listings, adjust parental controls, set your DVR and even check out Videos On Demand with the new mobile application. Verizon also included a nifty little storage space indicator to let you know when it’s time to delete those episodes of Jersey Shore that you’ve already seen a dozen times. Let us know how it works out for ...

Oxford University gets quiet as students are banned from using Spotify

There’s nothing like ruining your ears by blasting your favorite tunes while studying up on photochemistry and reaction dynamics, but Oxford students will have to find somewhere else to go deaf. The prestigious university offers free Internet access for its students, but Spotify, the wildly popular music streaming service, has been grinding the network to a halt. That pretty much makes life more difficult for the students accessing the network to, you know, learn stuff. But some of the students who use ...

Apple has just sent out invites to an event it will be holding next week at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco. In the invitation, Apple says, “Come see our latest creation.” Hmm, we wonder what that could be. It’s going to be an intense day since so much anticipation and hype has been building for an Apple tablet, and all that energy will finally culminate in typical Apple fashion next week. The event starts bright and early at 10 AM PST, so set your clocks and cal...

While we’re busy sitting here trying to figure out how this new phone is supposed to be pronounced, South Koreans are rejoicing that this Android device has become official there. We’ve all seen this handset before as the Motorola XT701 for China, but now we know that Korea will have it through SK Telekom. The device is running Android 2.0 and supports Gmail, YouTube, Google Maps and Google Talk. Basically, anything and everything Google will be delivered on this handset for the full Android exper...

Google makes some tweaks to Nexus One pricing, offers some refunds

Ever since the Nexus One was announced by Google, many have marveled at the “revolution” in handset sales — no more carriers! However, it sparked a lot of confusion with contract-free pricing, commitment pricing, termination fees and other details. Google is finally setting the record straight. For unlocked devices, the price stays at $529, and for new T-Mobile customers it still goes for $179. However, the pricing for customers who were eligible for upgrade with data plans was set at a high...

Apple confirms the tablet in letter to Gawker, but doesn’t

In case you were unaware, Gawker and Valleywag have announced a “Scavenger Hunt” offering some serious dough for pictures, video or hands-on time with the Apple tablet. It didn’t take long for Apple’s representation to respond. In a letter to Gabriel Snyder of Valleywag, Apple says that Gawker has “crossed the line” and that Apple “insists that you immediately discontinue the Scavenger Hunt.” Perhaps the most damning evidence, if you can even call it that, is th...

Photo of 10 inch Apple tablet screen is either totally fake, or kind of disappointing

Could the image you see above, which really looks like it could be part of a giant iPhone, be the glass surface for the Apple tablet? If so, that giant hole on the bottom is likely where an iPhone-like home button will be, and the earpiece up top would be for a speaker. Or, and we know this could be a stretch, someone had nothing better to do and created a large-scaled replica of the iPhone’s face, drilled an extra hole into it and called it a placeholder for a camera. There are some things we see on th...

Google charges its own ETF for Nexus One in addition to T-Mobile’s ETF

Here’s a bit of interesting news on the purchasing and cancellation process for the Nexus One. If you buy the device subsidized, and you decide to cancel your contract after the 14-day period (30 days for California) but before 120 days into your contract, Google can charge a termination fee of its own — on top of the carrier ETF. Shocking? Yeah, a little bit. You’d imagine that if you’re paying for a subsidized device and you cancel your contract, you’d just be paying the remain...

Sling Media Touch Control 100 video demo at CES

We popped over to Sling Media’s booth here at CES and took the new Sling Touch Control 100 for a spin. Overall, it’s pretty impressive and nifty, albeit a bit large, but the big, vivid screen makes up for it. Now, instead of picking up your heavy arm, grabbing the remote control and pushing all those buttons, you can set this thing down beside you and navigate your DVR or Blu-ray player over your wireless network with just the touch of a finger. The layout and set-up is very similar to what you...

Samsung Omnia Pro and Jet snapped at CES

Samsung doesn’t have much in the way of sneak peeks at CES, but we did manage to catch a glimpse of two international handsets. First is the Omnia Pro or Samsung B7610. The Omnia Pro doesn’t look too much like its cousin, the Omnia II, and it features a slide out QWERTY keyboard. It’s also a Windows 6.5 device that has a front-facing camera for video chat. Unfortunately, the only carrier in the U.S. that supports video chat of any kind is AT&T and it’s only one-way video chatting. ...
