We’ve just been dropped some intel from a new source that we thought we would share. Our source details three new handsets that U.S. wireless carrier Sprint will detail today at CTIA in San Francisco: the Samsung Transform, the Sanyo/Kyocera Zio, and the LG Optimus S.

The Samsung Transform will have a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display (not Super AMOLED), 800 MHz processor, 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera, 3.2 megapixel rear-facing camera with LED-flash, EV-DO Rev. A and Android 2.1. We’re told the device will be upgraded to Android 2.2 shortly after launch. The phone is set to launch on 10/10/10 for $149.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate. We saw the user guide for this device leak yesterday, so no real shock here.

The second device is the Sanyo/Kyocera Zio. The Zio sports a 3.5-inch HVGA full-touchscreen display, 600 MHz processor, 3.2 megapixel camera, and Android 2.1. Like the Transform, the Zio will be upgraded to Android 2.2 shortly after launch. The device will retail for $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and will be available on 10/10/10.

The third and final phone is the LG Optimus S. The Optimus S will have a 600 MHz processor, 3.2-inch full-touchscreen display, 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera, and will ship with Android 2.2. The device, which our source says feels great in the hand, will retail for $49.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate; also e available on 10/31/10.

All three devices will support Sprint’s mobile hotspot feature for up to five devices; the Optimus S will support this at launch, the Zio and Transform will support mobile hotspot creation once upgraded to Android 2.2.

LG Optimus One and LG Optimus Chic Deliver Winning Blend of Optimal Performance, Latest in Google Mobile Technology and Stylish Design

London, Sep. 14, 2010 — LG Electronics (LG) today launched LG Optimus One and LG Optimus Chic, two smartphones from the company’s Optimus series of smart devices. Powered by Android 2.2 (Froyo) and optimised for Google Mobile Services, the handsets will deliver the ultimate smartphone experience while offering easier accessibility for the growing number of consumers looking to purchase their first smartphone.

LG Optimus One and LG Optimus Chic are among the earliest smartphones to launch with Android 2.2, Froyo, the latest version of the Android platform, which allows for two to three times faster and smoother internet browsing, web-page loading, application pop-ups and multi-tasking.

The devices also enable professionals to easily sync with Outlook Calendar for improved productivity, while offering portable Wi-Fi hotspots to easily share a single 3G connection. The devices are optimised for popular Google Mobile Services including Google Voice Search™, Google Voice Actions™, Google Goggles™, Google Shopper™ and Google Maps™ with Navigation, and also offer access to Android Market with more than 80,000 applications.

LG Optimus One and LG Optimus Chic are developed based on consumer insight that first-time smartphone users have strong needs for obtaining information and handy application services.
“LG is offering the gateway into the smartphone world with the LG OPTIMUS One and the LG OPTIMUS Chic that offer the distinctive benefits of smartphones, in intuitive, approachable packages,” said Skott Ahn, CEO and president of LG Mobile Communications Company. “LG has a vision of helping people access information fast and easily, no matter where they are. We believe the OPTIMUS series will play a significant role in accomplishing our vision.”

LG Optimus One: Building a Newer, Better Smartphone Experience

In creating the LG OPTIMUS One “with Google™”, a large team of R&D experts from LG incorporated and optimised the device for the Froyo platform and Google Mobile Services.

Featuring a fun, user-friendly user interface, LG Optimus One also includes the exclusive LG App Advisor, which recommends 10 highly rated applications every two weeks.

The uniquely designed LG UI (user interface) and sleek new accessories such as carkit cradle offer users easier and more intuitive ways to enjoy all the benefits of the brand-new Froyo.

The phone also features a camera with face tracking and smile shot, a 3.2″ wide HVGA screen and a long-lasting 1500mAh capacity battery.

LG Optimus Chic: Best Smartphone for Style-Conscious Buyers

Plex, for those not familiar, is a software company whose former creed was to: “bridge the gap between your Mac and your home theater, doing so with a visually appealing user interface that provides instant access to your media.” Today, the company has announced that it will be partnering with electronics maker LG to “integrate the Plex platform into their 2011 lineup of Netcast connected TVs and Blu-ray devices.” In the company’s announcement, they quip that when it comes to connecting devices to your television, a Mac Mini is “too large,” a Boxee box is “too pointy,” and the new Apple TV is “too tiny.” The company is betting on this free, integrated software model to be the future of connected televisions. The announcement continues: “Early next year, when you buy an LG Netcast TV or Blu-ray player, you will have Plex functionality built-in. Specifically, it will connect to a cloud version of the Plex platform for online content, and, if you happen to have a Plex Media Server running anywhere in your house (after all, who doesn’t have a computer in their house?), you can access your local and online content, in a rich interface, with full metadata.” The concept of integrating mature, intuitive media software into a TV really does sound like a great idea; especially for LG, as TV manufacturers are always trying to differentiate themselves from the competition.

“There will be more content providers investing in writing Plex plug-ins, so your online content choices will grow. And next year, if you’re upgrading your TV, or or buying an LG Blu-ray player, you’ll have the ability to get Plex, built in, at no additional cost. Fully integrated into killer consumer electronics gear, exactly as it should be.”

Yes, that is the way it should be. Hit the read link for more info on Plex and their recently inked LG deal.

While the images are great, what may be more surprising is some of the specifications that the site reports. The 3.7-inch TFT screen, cloaked in Windows Phone 7, will be powered the QSD8650A Snapdragon chipset. Other than a mind-boggling 1.3 GHz processor, the chipset also packs: 2D acceleration, 3D graphics, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, integrated GPS, and HD video recording/playback. No wonder OEMs used to stick this same chip in netbooks! It’s all hearsay at this point, but we would love to see how WP7 performs with 1,300 megahertz pulling it along.
We have a source inside LG who is claiming that the C900 Windows Phone 7 handset we’ve been seeing all over the Internet will actually be called the “Pacific”. Our source also said this is the name being used internally as well. This is the second time we’ve heard the “Pacific” moniker; the first was in this interview conducted by Pocket-lint. What do you think of the name Pacific? Does it have that special ring to it?

The LG C900 has been outed by a Bluetooth SIG filing as having a September 28th launch date here in the U.S. The C900, which will be released by carrier AT&T, is a Windows Phone 7 full-QWERTY slider device that will be LG’s first swing at a WP7 handset. The handset will also be released internationally as the C900B, C900K, and C900N. The device certainly has been making the rounds in the last few days. We were dropped a tip of the devices existence, shortly after Engadget was sent an image (seen above), and now this Bluetooth SIG filing has been released. What do you think? Does the September 28th date hold water? [Via PhoneScoop] Read
