Looking very, very much like the now-infamous Idou Sony Ericsson announced for 2H, the same source that let us all in on the VZW/Pro2 party has floated a live shot of an upcoming SE phone that obviously grabs our attention. By way of Captain Blurrycam, d474rpr.com (“data ripper”? we’re a little rusty) brings us the “Kokura” — which could possibly be a CDMA variant of Sony Ericsson’s Idou. Really?! Bear with us here: All of the handsets in d474rpr’s post are presumably in the hands of the same tester as they were all seemingly taken in the same kitchen. Verizon’s upcoming Touch Pro2, Verizon’s upcoming BlackBerry Tour, Alltel’s upcoming HTC Cedar… And the Kokura. S60 5th Edition on Verizon Wireless? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Right on schedule, LG is apparently getting ready to start pushing out it’s newest touchscreen gem — the Viewty Smart. You hear that ‘other’ handset makers? It is possible to release a phone on schedule! As we’re sure you recall, this little dynamo sports a 3″ touchscreen display with WVGA resolution, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, aGPS, Wi-Fi and the 3D S-Class UI. Oh yeah, and it rocks an 8 megapixel camera capable of “DVD quality” video recording. Sweet. On a separate and even more intriguing note, LG reportedly told several UK blogs to expect a 12 megapixel handset to drop this year with “even more smart features”. Interest = piqued.

It’s not every day we can get excited about a Sony Ericsson handset in this day and age, so we cherish every opportunity. Really. Of course ultra-high end isn’t a space the company should be focusing on if it hopes to get things back on track, but it’s great for us so no complaints. The latest round of rumors puts the Symbian-powered Sony Ericsson Idou on sale in October and now that we have a nice clear set of images showing off the silver build, Halloween can’t come soon enough. It’s a sex bomb. Massive 3.5-inch touchscreen, 12.1 megapixel camera with Xenon flash, brushed metal lens guard… It would likely become the most desirable Symbian handset on the market the instant it dropped. Samsung may have a megapixel or two (or twelve) up its sleeve for the upcoming MWC 2009 expo in Barcelona. According to leaked information from two Korean news sources, Samsung is expected to debut a 12 megapixel camera phone that builds upon the success of the 8 megapixel Innov8. The only relevant information available is that Samsung may begin mass production at the end of February with a European launch soon thereafter. Anyone hungry for additional details about this mobile shooter and whether the optics behind the 12 megapixel will live up to the marketing hype will have to wait a few more weeks for that information to materialize.
