Apple announced its next generation desktop operating system — which includes many elements from its iOS mobile operating system — at a media event last month. Parties interested in testing the software can login to Apple’s developer portal, developer.apple.com, to download the latest bits.

Apple announces HDMI video-out cable, Smart Covers for iPad 2 http://www.bgr.com/2011/03/02/apple-announces-hdmi-video-out-cable-smart-covers-for-ipad-2/ http://www.bgr.com/2011/03/02/apple-announces-hdmi-video-out-cable-smart-covers-for-ipad-2/#comments Wed, 02 Mar 2011 18:32:47 +0000 Andrew Munchbach http://www.bgr.com/?p=78656

Durning the company’s iPad 2 event today, Apple announced the addition of an HDMI-out connector cable. The 30-pin dock connector to HDMI cable will support full mirrored output from your iPad 2, output video in full 1080p, support rotation, and cost just $39. The accessory also allows you to charge your device while connected. Apple also announced a new “Smart Cover” built by Apple specifically for the new iPad. The new cover (not a case) uses magnets to attach and auto-align itself to the iPad, adds minimal weight, and it has a micro-fiber lining to clean the screen. As an awesome little twist, the Smart Cover will automatically put your iPad to sleep when closed and it will wake the tablet when opened. Smart Covers will be available in polyurethane for $39 and leather for $69.

It looks like Big Red is doing a little wheeling and dealing with its entire DROID smartphone lineup. Via the company’s web store, Verizon Wireless is offering online-purchasers of any DROID-branded smartphone an additional $100 off the subsidized, two-year contract price. With the new, temporary pricing schema in place, the DROID X (CPO), DROID R2D2, and DROID Incredible (CPO) will retail for the always enjoyable sum of $0. If those three handsets aren’t to your liking, the DROID 2 Global can be acquired for $99.99, the DROID PRO will set you back $79.99, and the DROID X (non-CPO) will retail for $49.99. Of course, the DROID BIONIC (not to mention the HTC ThunderBolt) is right around the corner. But if you don’t have that burning desire for the absolute latest and greatest, why not save yourself some cash?

The white iPhone 4 has yet to come to fruition, but it looks like that hasn’t deterred Apple from experimenting with future, pale products. According to 9 to 5 Mac, Apple is working on a white iteration of its yet-to-be-announced iPad 2. The information comes courtesy of the above image, which is purportedly a white bezel (also known as the digitizer) from the next generation iPad. The above bezel looks extremely similar to leaked images of the black digitizer that have been circulating the Web. It also appears to match the design of potential iPad 2 screen protectors revealed earlier this month. Hit the jump for a second image showing the rear side of the panel, and sit tight until March 2nd when all this should be hashed out.

It looks like Apple has begun sending out press invites to a March 2nd media event to be held in California. The event, scheduled for 10:00AM PT, should be the official outing of the company’s oft rumored iPad 2. The invitation simply taunts its recipients to “come see what 2011 will be the year of.” Analysts are calling for a new, buttonless iPad with front and rear facing cameras along with a larger screen. Will the rumors hold water? We’ll soon find out.

We have to admit, HP’s timing on the Pre 2 in the U.S. is a little funny. Just one day after the announcement that the Pre 3 will be here this summer, HP and Verizon Wireless made the Pre 2 available for pre-order. You can reserve yourself the webOS 2.0 handset for $99, with delivery occurring on February 17th. We’re not sure why anyone would opt for the Pre Deuce with the Tre set to drop this summer, but it’s nice to have options. Anyone out there with that crazy look in their eye going to order the Pre 2?

We know the next generation of Samsung’s Galaxy S handset, being referred to as the Galaxy S2, is due to drop at Mobile World Congress in just two weeks. We assume the device will sport Samsung’s new Super AMOLED Plus display and a more current processor offering. What we don’t know is exactly what the device will look like… until now. In a short teaser video, Sammy gives us a quick look at the profile of the next generation Gally S. What can we surmise from the video? Not much, other than the device is going to be incredibly thin… like really thin. You don’t have to take our word for it, the clip is waiting for you after the break. Enjoy.

We’re going streaking… at T-Mobile… on February 2nd! Hmm, that may have come out wrong. What we’re trying to say is that Dell’s 7-inch tablet, the Streak 7, will be hitting the shelves of T-Mobile in just two days on February 2nd — a date we’ve heard kicked around before. The device will retail for a very reasonable $199.99 with a signed, two-year contract (after a $50 mail-in rebate). For those that need a quick refresher, the Streak 7 was announced at this month’s Consumer Electronics show and will boast a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, HSPA+ radio, front-facing camera, and Android 2.2. A Galaxy Tab or a Streak 7… that is the question.Read

Blog TmoNews has acquired intel that indicates America’s fourth largest wireless carrier, T-Mobile, will be launching the Dell Streak 7 Android tablet on February 2nd, Groundhog Day. The information comes courtesy of a leaked materials-placement guide presumably sent to a retail location. The Streak 7 will be T-Mobile’s first HSPA+ tablet offering and is slated to ship running the Android 2.2 operating system. Hopefully, Dell will be more proactive in pushing out updates to this Streak offering. Any Magenta lovers out there waiting for the Streak 7?

Samsung Galaxy S2: Super AMOLED Plus, NFC, Gingerbread? http://www.bgr.com/2011/01/11/samsung-galaxy-s2-super-amoled-plus-nfc-gingerbread/ http://www.bgr.com/2011/01/11/samsung-galaxy-s2-super-amoled-plus-nfc-gingerbread/#comments Tue, 11 Jan 2011 23:45:02 +0000 Andrew Munchbach http://www.bgr.com/?p=72677

Things we definitively know: Samsung will be introducing the successor to the Galaxy S next month at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Things we don’t definitively know: what the handset will look like, what it is named, and what kind of specs it will have. All that, however, hasn’t stopped Korean newspaper ETnews from weighting in with its opinion. The publication claims that the above image is indeed the Samsung Galaxy S2 — name subject to change. The report states the that device will have a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, dual-core processor, and NFC chip; the device will also run on Google’s latest mobile operating system, Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). We’re not too sure on the authenticity of the image, but the specification predictions aren’t all that outlandish (especially considering what the Nexus S has in it and some of the dual-core phones we saw at CES). It’s all speculative for now, but your friends at BGR will be in Spain next month to report on all the hotness as it happens.

Best Buy mum on DROID 2 Global, Pro removal; Verizon not involved http://www.bgr.com/2010/12/16/best-buy-mum-on-droid-2-global-pro-removal-verizon-not-involved/ http://www.bgr.com/2010/12/16/best-buy-mum-on-droid-2-global-pro-removal-verizon-not-involved/#comments Fri, 17 Dec 2010 00:01:34 +0000 Andrew Munchbach http://www.bgr.com/?p=69891

Earlier this morning, we told you that retail giant Best Buy began pulling Motorola’s DROID 2 Global and DROID Pro from store shelves. Although the cause was initially rumored to be a handset pricing dispute between the two companies, that simply is not the case. In an email to BGR, a Verizon Wireless spokesperson noted that the company has not mandated or otherwise requested Best Buy to remove the devices from its shelves. The spokesperson went on to emphasize that there is not any kind of recall (hardware, software, or otherwise) that would explain such an action. To hammer that point home, Verizon’s official Twitter account let this 140-character cherub loose this afternoon:

DROID 2 Glob and DROID Pro are great phones. Stop by your Verizon Wireless store and try ‘em out! #droid

Best Buy has yet to respond to BGR’s request for comment. For the time being, Best Buy is playing this one pretty close to the vest.

Several days ago, we saw Google’s Andy Rubin pawing an unreleased Motorola tablet running Android 3.0… and we liked it. Now, to further whet your appetite, a tantalizing screen shot of Honeycomb’s 3D live wallpapers, along with some device specifications, have surfaced in Taiwan.

The screen shot taker describes the tablet as “light” and pontificates that the hardware is ready for launch; it is now waiting on Google to finish baking Honeycomb. The Motorola tablet, according to the gentleman who had a close encounter, has a 1280 x 800 display, NVIDIA Tegra 2 T20 processor, 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, 2 megapixel front-facing camera, a microSD card slot, and 32GB of built in storage.

The tablet will be available in both a 7-inch and 10-inch form-factor and should come with three different wireless options for on-the-go connectivity: UMTS, CDMA, or LTE.  Sign us up.

If you were watching Sunday Night Football last night, you may have caught Verizon’s first TV spot for its LTE, 4G network. At the end of the spot — which stars an eager consumer getting a Verizon parcel containing a lighting bolt — the screen reads “Coming December 2010.” We’re fairly sure that VZW won’t flip the switch on its next generation network without a little press fanfare; expect to see a Verizon media event announcement in early to mid-December.

Also, Verizon quietly updated its website replacing the three-month old Motorola DROID 2 with the DROID 2 Global. The device is available for $199 with a signed two-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate. The only announcement Verizon made was a small entry on its Facebook page touting the device’s ability to operating in over 220 countries — perhaps an effort not to insult those who purchased the original DROID 2?

Hit the jump to check out the LTE advert and more.
