The AT&T leakfest wraps up with two Motorola offerings. Be ready for names and relationships that will befuddle even the most ardent genealogist. First up is the Android-based Heron which we scooped back in April as the IRONMAN. From the slide, it appears as if the handset was meant to be a Windows Mobile device that was switched over to Android. The specs, which are subject to change of course, give the phone quad-band GSM, dual-band HSDPA/HSUPA, 2.6 inch QVGA screen, 3 megapixel fixed focus camera with auto-flash and aGPS. So the IRONMAN is also known as the Heron — pretty straight forward there. Hit the jump for more.

Next up is the Motorola Sawgrass which apparently is the QA1 “Karma” and showed itself on the recent AT&T rebate form. The Sawgrass will sport quad-band GSM, dual-band HSDPA, 2 megapixel camera, A2DP Bluetooth, aGPS, microSD expansion up to 32GB and a full HTML browser. This handset bears a rather striking resemblance to the Motorola Somerset, which of course was formerly known as the Alexander. Even the little known specs from the Somerset/Alexander (3.5mm stereo jack, A2DP, MMC support, and a camera) line up nicely with what we know about the Sawgrass/QA1 Karma. The only piece of the puzzle that doesn’t quite fit is the camera — Alexander was supposed to sport a killer shooter but this little guy is only packing 2 megapixels. Hmm.

So there you have it folks, some messy names and a load of information on what Motorola is sending down the pike to AT&T.

Not that anyone ever really spent sleepless nights longing for it, but it might upset a few Motorola fans to know that DigiTimes is reporting that the Motorola Alexander has been scrapped. The Alexander, for those who don’t recall, was said to be a Windows Mobile device that featured a vertically-sliding QWERTY keypad, an 8 megapixel camera and an NVIDIA graphics chip that was rumored to be more than adept at spitting out 3D graphics. In other Moto news, the same source is saying that shipments of the MOTOSURF have been scaled back due to a decision to limit the markets in which the device is available. Another one bites the dust…

According to short but sweet article in Digitimes, Taiwanese hardware manufacturer Compal has received an order from Motorola for two Windows Mobile smartphones, codenamed the Alexander and Attila. We saw some spy shots of the Attila earlier this week but news on the status of the qwerty keyboard packing Alexander has been sorely lacking until now. The article reveals that the two PDA phones are slated for release in Q1 2009 instead of the originally anticipated Q4 2008. Does the news of a potential release stoke the fire of anticipation for these new Motorola handsets or does it leave you wishing it would just let them die and focus on getting its Android-based social networking handset out the door instead?

Another leaked Motorola handset? You bet! This time we’ve got the brother-in-law to the Motorola Alexander — no QWERTY keyboard — with a pretty decent spec sheet. This one is codenamed Atila, and if you haven’t caught on to Motorola’s code names for Windows Mobile devices, they are all named after great conquerors; Alexander, Atila, Ghenghis, etc. The Atila is actually the first Motorola device that will have tri-band UMTS/HSDPA. Finally, right? We’re not sure on a release date, but here’s an introduction of the specs, followed by the actual spec sheet:

• Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE
• Tri-band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850MHz/1900MHz/2100MHz)
• 7.2Mbps HSDPA, 1.8Mbps HSUPA
• 1130mAh battery
• 2.8″ QVGA 240 x 320 screen
• Wi-Fi b/g
• Qualcomm 7201A chipset
• Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional

Remember that phone we told you about? Well, we got more info on it and it turns out that it’s going to be a Windows Mobile handset. Here’s a list of some of the specs we found:

• Windows Mobile 6.1 (though it looks like Windows Mobile 7)
• 5-8 megapixel camera
• NVIDIA chip the handle 3D graphics
• aGPS
• Q4 release date

We’re working on some more shots and info, but until then… what are you thinking? Does Moto have a chance?

One of our Motorola ninjas hit us up to give us the low-down on their brand new unreleased flapship phone. It was described to us as being Motorola’s “last stand”, so to speak. Internally, everyone is hedging their bets on this bad boy, and if this doesn’t get accepted like Motorola hopes it will, it’s all over for them. Then again, it’s been all over for them for a while now, no? In any case, the specs on the phone codenamed Alexander are:

• Originally a 5 megapixel camera, but possibly scrapped since the ZN5 is out. It looks like it’s going to be an 8 megapixel camera phone. At least that’s what is floating around in the R&D labs…
• The device will have a built-in NVIDIA chip which will handle both video and 3D graphics.
• It will have GPS
• It might possibly be a touch screen but that has not been confirmed to us just yet.
• The phone is rumored to run UIQ as the OS, “probably version 4.0 or higher.”
• It’s called a “Dark Project” phone because of the secrecy surrounding it. Well, that worked out really pretty good.
• Release right now is set for October, but as always, that could change.
• Again, this is said to be Moto’s last big attempt at getting back their market share and reclaiming victory. If this doesn’t work out, we’re told it’s all over for them and they will sell the company.
