Today, AT&T announced the availability of three new mobile-broadband computing devices: the Acer Aspire AS1830, Acer Aspire One 532h, and the Dell Inspire Mini 10D. The Aspire AS1830 is a full-fledged laptop that comes with an Intel Core i3 processor, 2 GB RAM, 250 MB hard drive, 11.6-inch display, 1.3 megapixel webcam, and Windows 7 Home Premium. The AS1830 will retail for $239.99 on a two-year contract. The Aspire One 523h and Dell Mini 10D both fall into the netbook category, with 10.1-inch displays, Intel N450 Atom processors, and Windows 7 Starter Edition; both units will retail for $39.99 with a two-year contract. The devices will also be able to leverage AT&T’s Pay-As-You-Go plans for connectivity; $15 for one-day 100 MB plan, $30 for one-week 300 MB plan, $50 for one-month 1 GB plan. There were rumors going around not long ago about more subsidized netbooks making their way over to AT&T. Well, it looks like AT&T is about to start offering the Acer Aspire One 10.1″ netbook complete with integrated AT&T 3G access via a partnership with Costco. Costco employees are currently being trained for the launch and according to the info we received, the preparation comes to a head on May 8th. As for the netbook itself, it will become availble beginning May 11th. We’re pretty sure the Acers will be available from both AT&T retail stores and Costco electronics kiosks, just like Radio Shack’s current AT&T netbook. No word yet on pricing but look for it to line up just above the 8.9″ model currently available from Radio Shack.

Carrier subsidized netbooks, a common occurrence overseas, may finally be making their way stateside. In a “first ever” for the US, Radio Shack and AT&T may be offering the Acer Aspire One netbook for a mere $99 with an AT&T AirCard minimum data plan of $60/month. Yes, we know that potential Dell Inspiron Mini 9 owners can get a price break on the cost of the 3G modem with an AT&T contract but the netbook itself is not reduced in price, thus disqualifying it from being the first true US carrier-subsidized netbook. As with all carrier subsidized items, the final cost of the item, when you add in the monthly data plan over the term of the contract is astoundingly high with the price of the Acer Aspire One ballooning up to $1500, but of course that includes data. If those terms don’t sound so hot, then you can buy the Acer Aspire outright for $499. For those who are going to sign up for a data plan regardless and want a full-powered mobile device like a netbook, then this $99 Acer Aspire One is an excellent choice.
