T-Mobile announced new “Value” plans for customers who sign up for service and pay the full price of a new phone or bring their own device. Beginning on July 24th, customers will have the option of paying for a new device at an unsubsidized cost upfront or in monthly installments. T-Mobile’s cheapest Value plan is a $39 monthly option that provides 500 minutes and unlimited texting, but the carrier will also offer 2GB, 5GB, and 10GB data packages. Family lines will start at $49.99 per line, and customers will have the option of signing up for “value” mobile broadband plans, too. The new plans will be particularly attractive to customers who take hand-me-down phones from friends, but there’s a small catch. It’s typically attractive to buy a phone at full price to avoid being locked into a two-year agreement. If you sign up for a Value plan, however, you’ll still be locked into a contract. T-Mobile’s current “Even More” plans will be rebranded “Classic” when the Value options make their debut. Read on for the full press release from T-Mobile.

T-Mobile Unveils Affordable And Worry-Free Unlimited Data Plans

New T-Mobile Value plans make the latest 4G smartphones
and wireless services affordable for all
BELLEVUE, Wash. — July 20, 2011 — T-Mobile USA, Inc. today announced new Value plans, making it more affordable than ever to step up to data on America’s Largest 4G Network™. Featuring flexible pricing for unlimited data and available with affordable monthly payments on any of T-Mobile’s phones and mobile broadband devices, including the latest 4G smartphones and tablets, the new Value plans could save customers hundreds of dollars annually.
Slated to be available beginning on July 24, the new plans build on T-Mobile’s commitment of offering affordable, consumer-friendly plans in tune with the evolving needs of wireless customers. Available with a two-year agreement for new and existing customers, the Value plans offer single-line and multiline options with a range of price points for talk, unlimited text and unlimited data with 2 GB, 5 GB or 10 GB of high-speed data — with no data overage charges. Customers can choose from a variety of monthly plans and only pay for the high-speed data they need.

“T-Mobile is committed to making the always-on benefits of smartphones and tablets more accessible and worry-free for all Americans,” said John Clelland, senior vice president, marketing, T-Mobile USA. “Customers want to enjoy all that the mobile Web has to offer, but they don’t want to pay for more than they need or worry about bill shock. Our incredible value comes from the combination of our nationwide 4G network, exceptional device portfolio and affordable plans that offer unlimited data access without overages.”

With the new Value plans, customers are empowered to purchase any product in
T-Mobile’s innovative device lineup or bring their own device and have access to the company’s best pricing. With no overages on the new unlimited plans and flexible terms, customers can pick the wireless data plan that best fits their needs and choose how they want to pay for their device. Value plan customers who purchase a device can pay an upfront down payment on a new device and make low, interest-free payments for the full price of the product while still getting T-Mobile’s best available rates on monthly service.* T-Mobile will continue to offer its traditional plans under the new T-Mobile Classic plan brand, previously called Even More™ plans.

For example, T-Mobile’s new Value family plan with unlimited talk, unlimited text and unlimited data with 2 GB of high-speed data is just $49.99 per line for two lines. Even with the addition of purchasing two smartphones, such as the T-Mobile myTouch® 4G Slide, on T-Mobile’s Equipment Installment Plan, customers may yield savings of more than $800 annually. *

“Families are looking for ways to affordably include mobile data so the kids can communicate via social networking, watch YouTube and surf the Web without parents breaking the bank,” said Tole Hart, senior analyst with Yankee Group. “Plans that help them get more while paying less will get a lot of attention.”

T-Mobile also will offer a robust lineup of mobile broadband service options under both the new Value and Classic plans. For instance, customers could add an overage-free mobile broadband Value plan to their voice service for $19.99 per month with 2 GB of high-speed data for products, including laptop sticks, tablets and the T-Mobile 4G Mobile Hotspot, which allows a family to share their 4G mobile connection with up to five Wi-Fi devices using a single mobile broadband connection.

T-Mobile’s new Value and Classic plans are expected to be available beginning July 24. In addition to the unlimited Value and Classic plans, T-Mobile also will introduce new Value plans for small business customers this summer with additional details available in the coming weeks.

T-Mobile continues to offer no annual contract plans with its Monthly4G plans, as well as Pay As You Go plans for as low as 10 cents per minute for voice calls. More information on T-Mobile’s service plans is available at http://www.t-mobile.com.

JAPANESE TRADITION REBORN WITH THE MOBIADO CLASSIC 712 MOKUME GANE

Vancouver, Canada – November 23rd, 2010: Mobiado is proud to present the Japanese spirit of Mokume Gane with the Classic 712MG.

Mokume Gane ( 木目金 ) translates from Japanese as “wood grain metal”. This process of bonding mixed-metal was invented by Denbei Shoami (1651-1728) in 17th-century Feudal Japan and was used for sword fittings when the decline of the katana industry forced artisans to create purely decorative items.

The 712MG represents a milestone as the first phone to be created from Mokume Gane. Noble, fearless, timeless.

The Externals: Mokume Gane – A symbol of Japanese spirit.

The Mokume Gane is created by putting copper, nickel silver, and brass through a thorough 7 step cleaning process, which is the key to preventing material delimitation. The layers are then stacked and wrap in steel foil. Once in the air tight environment, the billet is fused through heat and pressure for 2 to 3 hours in an electric kiln. It is then forged, hand twisted, and forged again for create the final material of Mokume Gane.

The hand twisted Mokume Gane frame is then precision CNC machined and hand polished. No two phones are alike. The top of the phone is precision engraved with the designers signature and inlayed with a white or black diamond. The iconic Mobiado logo is CNC machine engraved into the body to bestow a final touch of elegance.

Large sapphire crystal plates, hand painted with 24 Karat gold lettering and symbols are precision inset into the Mokume Gane body. The buttons of the Classic 712MG are crafted from an array of sapphire crystal buttons (hand painted with 24 Karat yellow gold, 18 Karat rose gold, and silver) giving the phone a total of 204.5 Carats of sapphire crystal. The phone is then assembled using 24 Karat gold plated stainless steel screws.

The battery cover is made entirely from one piece of sapphire crystal and incorporates a unique hidden sliding battery cover mechanism (patent pending). With each piece of Mokume Gane being twisted by hand, every 712MG phone is truly one of a kind.

The Internals: Merging state-of-the-art technologies with the tradition of phone-making innovation.

The 712MG is unlocked and will work with any GSM network operator. The phone is quad-band GSM (GSM 850/900/1800/1900) and has triple band WCDMA Band I, II and VIII (2100/1900/900) coverage on up to five continents. It is equipped with a large 2.2” QVGA display, 5 megapixel camera and video camera with flash, integrated GPS, web browser, email support, and a music player that supports AMR, MID, MP3, MP4, M4A, .WMA and AAC files.

As college students across the country try to recover from the 2008/2009 school year, Apple has just kicked off its back to school promotion for the coming year. The deal is nothing new — buy a Mac, get an iPod for free — but it’s pretty sweet nonetheless. Here’s how it boils down: College students and college/K-12 faculty who purchase a qualifying Mac (excludes refurbished computers and Mac minis) will receive:

$149 rebate on an iPod nano 8GB

$79 rebate on an iPod shuffle

As far as snagging a Mac on a college student’s budget, the white MacBook is still your best bet of course. Coincidentally, the little MacBook that could is the recipient of a nice little spec upgrade as of this morning. Notables include a 2.13GHz processor instead of 2.0GHz, a 160GB HDD instead of 120GB and 2GB of 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM instead of 667MHz RAM. Pricing is still the same — can’t hate that.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Nokia has just announced its newest handset to support one of our favorite still-emerging technologies, Near Field Communications (NFC). Dubbed the 6216 classic, Nokia’s third NFC-enabled phone does throw a bit of a curveball in that it is Nokia’s first to allow operators to build NFC services into the SIM card. NFC technology allows devices to transfer data between each other merely by tapping them together. Image files, video files, contacts, music and more can all be delivered wirelessly using NFC technology but the key functionality being eyed by the industry is NFC-facilitated secure payments. The 6216 classic is certainly a step forward in this realm, as Nokia’s head of near field communications Jeremy Belostock tells us:

The Nokia 6216 classic will be amongst the first commercial devices in the market complying with operator requirements using the SIM card in connection to secure transactions with Near Field Communications. With the Nokia 6216 classic in your pocket and the ticketing applications on the SIM you can replace the multitude of cards in your wallet. Having the applications on the SIM consumers can bring their secure applications to their next Nokia NFC enabled phone.

Beyond NFC, you’re looking at a pretty basic S40 handset: Quad-band GSM, dual-band 3G (850/2100 MHz), 2-inch QVGA display, 2 megapixel camera, microSDHC support, Bluetooth and 22MB of user-accessible memory pretty much say it all. The 6216 classic is slated to begin shipping in the third quarter and will retail for €150 ($196) before subsidies but don’t expect to see it stateside any time soon.

Mr. Jobs has just left the stage down in San Francisco, and in recognition of Apple’s big event today we thought it was appropriate to bring you a round-up of all of the relevant bits of new product news and information. Cupertino dropped a lot of tidbits on us today, so grab a cup of coffee, light up that mid-day cigarette, and get ready to dive in:

New iPod Nano. The new device is thinner than ever before, sports a completely revamped OS with cover flow, shake-to-shuffle feature, built-in Genius playlist, and a curved glass screen. It has a built-in accelerometer, and comes in a dizzying array of colors. Expect to pay $149 for the 8GB and $199 for the 16GB. The 8GB should be available right now, with the 16GB following sometime next week

New iPod Touch. The new Touch features a completely redesigned case, integrated Nike+iPod functionality, external volume controls and speaker, and more. Available immediately, you should expect to pay $229 for the 8GB model, $299 for the 16GB, and $399 for the 32GB. Apple is billing this one as the “Funnest iPod Ever”, and seems to be trying to position it as a mobile gaming device.

iPhone firmware 2.1. As expected, Apple announced the new 2.1 firmware update for the iPhone. The new software promises greatly improved battery life, fewer crashes, fewer dropped calls, and faster backups. Can anyone say “Hell yeah?” We’ll see how well it delivers on these promises, with an expected delivery this Friday.

iPod Classic 120 GB. Nothing much to say about this one, except that it has replaced both the 80GB and 160GB models. Expect to pay $249 for this baby, available immediately.

iTunes 8. The command center behind all of this, Apple introduced the new version of their omnipresent media software. iTunes 8 delivers a news Genius playlist function, new Hi-Def TV show support, the return of NBC shows to the TV Store, and more. The software is expected to launch today, though as of this writing it had yet to appear on Apple’s site.

Minor bits: iPod Shuffle now comes in 4 new colors, Apple is now offering in-ear headphones with an in-line volume control and improved speakers for $79.

Excited? Disappointed? Indifferent? Sound off!
