Yellow Pages, a subsidiary of AT&T, is launching its own Deals platform that will compete with Groupon and other bargain services, Bloomberg is reporting. The service is live now on YP.com, and AT&T is offering new customers a $10 credit towards their first “Deal of the Day” purchase — provided that you sign up before May 22nd. The carrier says that its Yellow Pages Deals service will be available in Atlanta, Dallas/Forth Worth, and Los Angeles to start, although it will be deployed to more cities in the future. AT&T could have the upper hand among mobile users, as it typically installs a default Yellow Pages application on most of its phones. However, it’s unclear if it will build the Deals service directly into mobile apps, or if it will only be an online/e-mail offering. Verizon Wireless will soon offer discounts on monthly plans to smartphone users who subscribe to a family plan, The Wall Street Journal reports. The new promotion, which starts Friday and will allow sign ups through January 7th, will require customers to have smartphones with $29.99 per month unlimited data plans. While WSJ did not specify the discount scheme Verizon’s new promotion will employ, it did report that discounts would be up to $30 off monthly bills on family plans ranging from $69.99 to $149.99 per month. Verizon Wireless has yet to make any official announcement regarding the promotion.

Black Friday is almost upon us and many of you are going to be scouring your areas for some of the best deals found all year. Yesterday, we told you about the price cuts and discounts that Apple distributors are offering and it looks like it will be quite an event at the Apple Store. In New Zealand and Australia the sales have already begun, though the only Macs on sale are the iMac and MacBook. For those of you wanting to get an iPhone 3G for a friend or loved one, walking out without having activated the handset first still isn’t an option. You can however, give them a gift card for the iPhone 3G and they get some special treatment from a sales rep where they will help them set up the phone, configure email accounts and even add some tunes so your loved one can walk out a happy camper. There will also be personal shoppers on hand to assist customers, like they always do. Come to think of it, short of the modest discounts it has lined up, Apple’s Black Friday event will likely be just like any other day – only with a slightly bigger crowd.
