Microsoft products fit into two different life cycle stages — mainstream support and extended support. With mainstream support, users receive free security updates, stability improvements, bug fixes and occasional new features. In the extended support phase, security updates are available for free but other fixes require paid support. Microsoft reminded Windows XP users earlier this week that XP is now in the extended phase, and it said support for the operating system and Office 2003 will be officially dis...

In 2011, carriers and manufacturers were releasing smartphones at such short intervals that within weeks, your once new and high-end device would most likely already be outdated. Unfortunately, it looks like things won’t be slowing down in 2012. After a mere six months on the market, Verizon Wireless has issued an end-of-life discontinuation for the Motorola DROID 3, The Verge reports. The article also claims that Verizon has issued EOL’s for the Blackberry Curve 3G, Palm Pre 2, LG Revolution and ...

When the Palm Pre disappeared from Sprint’s website last week, many speculated that the world’s first webOS phone was probably gone for good. The move comes as Verizon makes room in its inventory for newer BlackBerry devices; BBLeaks reports that replacements for the 9550 and 8530 are due out in Q3/Q4 (which is a pretty large 6-month window). The 8530 is likely going to be replaced by the 930...

Windows 3.x goes the way of the dodo

The election is over, the country is responding and here all we can think about is the fact that Windows 3.x is now officially dead and buried. Ok that’s not entirely true, but it really is the end of an era. Windows 3.x, the game-changer that it was, survived for 18 great years though it really hasn’t been relevant for quite a while. Licenses were still available up until a few days ago however, as some systems such as cash registers in dire need of an update still run the classic OS. Look at how...
