Verizon Wireless customers in the market for a new handset may want to put the brakes on any purchases until next week. One of our insiders tipped us off to a sale on handsets that is slated to start on Monday, June 28th. The promotion extends to both smartphones and feature phones and includes the following handsets:

• LG enV Touch: $49.99 after $100 mail-in-rebate ($30 drop). Eligible for BOGO (buy one get, one same device).
• BlackBerry Storm 2: $149 after $100 mail-in-rebate ($30 drop). Eligible for BOGA (buy one, get any device of equal or lesser value).
• Nokia Twist: $49.99 after $50 mail-in-rebate ($50 drop).
• Kin ONE: $29.99 after $100 mail-in-rebate ($30 drop). Eligible for BOGA.
• Kin TWO: $49.99 after $100 mail-in-rebate ($30 drop). Eligible for BOGA.

With an average savings of $30, the sale is on the small side, especially for the singleton looking to score one phone; but a couple, with two phones in hand, can do well with the price drop and the BOGO combined.

No more speculation — we’ve got the low down on that Verizon Wireless DROID/Eris buy one get one free sale that was rumored to start on Friday. From December 4th to the 7th, if you buy one DROID or DROID Eris, you can get one DROID Eris for free after rebate. Sorry folks, no free Motorola DROIDs on BOGO this time. If you are in the market for a feature phone, a BOGO promotion for the LG enV Touch and the enV3 also starts on Friday and extends though December 25th. So don’t bother making that trip to your local Verizon Wireless store tonight, put that plastic back in your wallet and sleep on it one more night. Pleasant dreams!

Every year countless gifts are given during the holidays. Some of them are great, and some of them… well, you can’t win ‘em all. We’ve never done a Gift Guide before but with countless new products popping up almost weekly, we’re surprised those of you who aren’t glued to BGR are able to pick out a gift at all. If your loved one drops your smartphone like a hot potato because it’s “too complicated”, the LG enV TOUCH may be the perfect gift. A connection (read: fast), the enV Touch has made our most worthy list for moderately geeky folk this holiday season.

BlackBerry Curve 8520

The latest BlackBerry in the Curve-series from Research In Motion is the BlackBerry Curve 8520, and it packs a punch for a pretty small price. Is it top of the line? No, but it can most definitely get the job done if you’re considering it as a gift for a young professional, recent college-bound individual, or even a mother or father. Everything is neatly packed into this QWERTY keyboard BlackBerry. Things like a 2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, extra memory for installing applications and games, and a super long lasting battery round the feature-set

Sprint HTC Hero

The second best Android handset in the U.S. definitely deserves some love, too, and whomever ultimately ends up receiving the Hero will probably be a happy camper. Featuring a great display, 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, and an intuitive user interface (read: it’s simple to use), there’s not a whole lot bad to say about Sprint’s Hero. The price is even attractive.

HTC Touch Pro2

HTC’s update to their original Touch Pro is practically available on all major carriers in the U.S., and for good reason. If you’re the business type that demands a Windows Mobile handset and are big on conference calling while on the move, there isn’t anything better. It’s one of the most enjoyable phones we’ve ever used to talk on, and its call quality / conference calling / speakerphone is more or less unmatched. It’s a little pricey, though.

Nokia E71x

It’s not brand new, but it’s still one of the finest devices that handset-leader Nokia manufactures. What do you get in such a small package? 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi, GPS, a 3 megapixel autofocus camera, a decent QWERTY keyboard and an all black finish. The operating system that powers the E71x is getting a little dated, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t a host of applications and games available for it. Plus, you can’t really beat the price.

Motorola DROID

There are no ifs, ands, or buts. Motorola’s DROID handset is simply the greatest Android phone to date, and from what we’re hearing, it’s a hot seller. If you’re looking for a gift for your anarchist, anti-establishment son, or maybe a husband that gets caught trying to jailbreak his iPod touch, then maybe they might enjoy an Android phone by Motorola. If you’re looking for a gift for a daughter, sister, or wife, the DROID might not be the best choice, however.

BlackBerry 9700

There isn’t much to it: if your loved one is a BlackBerry-addicted individual and demands the best, there really isn’t anything better. From the pocketable design to the always functional keyboard, global roaming and multimedia features, the BlackBerry 9700 has our vote for the best BlackBerry of all time. iPhone 3GS

Look, they’ve begged you each and every year, you might as well just give in this time. The iPhone 3GS is Apple’s latest smartphone straight out of Cupertino and it’s a beauty. With an unmatched user interface and practically limitless applications and games (just watch out for those iTunes email receipts), this is one iPod that will be sure to keep the kids, nephews, parents, and even grandparents quiet. And happy, too. Just make sure they’re wearing headphones because we’re heard enough Andrea Bocelli out off Grandma’s iPhone.

So far in our coverage of these two Verizon-bound handsets by LG, feelings have certainly been mixed. The LG Glance — with its 1.3 megapixel camera, 2.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth, VZ Navigator and slim frame — has not garnered much love on the pages of BGR. Seeing as it’s an entry-level feature phone of course, we really didn’t expect it to. The enV Touch on the other hand has been received much better. Sure there is the occasional GSM addict who scoffs at this CDMA kit despite dual 3-inch displays, full QWERTY keypad, 3.2 megapixel camera with a Schneider Kreuznach lens and auto-focus, 3.5mm headphone jack, Visual Voicemail and MicroSDHC support, but you can’t please everyone. The bottom line is whether or not these new LGs are your cup of tea, variety is a good thing… Just ask Hef. Right on queue, the LG enV Touch and LG Glance have both appeared on Verizon’s website and are now available for purchase through all channels — the former for $149.99 on contract after MIR and the latter for $49.99 on contract after MIR. Today Verizon took the wraps off of three devices we feel like we already know all too well. Starting off with the successor to the Voyager, the evV TOUCH features a 3-inch touchscreen display on the exterior, a non-touch 3-inch display on the interior, full-QWERTY keypad, 3.2 megapixel camera with a Schneider Kreuznach lens and auto-focus, 3.5mm headphone jack and the ability to view Microsoft Office documents from a microSD card. The enV 3 features a full-QWERTY keypad as well, but it has a 2.6-inch external display coupled with a 1.56-incher on the inside and support for microSD cards up to 16GB. Moving on to the Glance, not much to see here other than the 1.3 megapixel camera, 2.5mm headphone jack and slim silhouette. All three devices feature GPS by way of VZ Navigator, mobile email, web and IM in addition to threaded SMS and MMS. The enV TOUCH will be available on June 5th for $149.99 after a $70 MIR with the Glance coming out the same day for $49.99 after a $50 MIR. The enV 3 will be available tomorrow for $129.99 after a $50 MIR.

As if we didn’t see this one coming, the Palm Pre has made its official debut on Best Buy’s website. The handset is sporting a super-high $849 price tag which is apparently a deterrent. With a shortage of handsets “expected at launch”, Best Buy supposedly wants to discourage Best Buy employees and any other customers from buying the handset at full retail. We will see how this shakes out as the launch date draws closer.

Well, it certainly is not the BlackBerry Storm but the LG enV Touch must rank high up on the Verizon Wireless ladder as it is seemingly getting the same pre-order treatment. Starting today, Best Buy Mobile is launching a pre-order sale for the upcoming LG enV Touch. A mere $50 deposit will guarantee that you can walk out of Best Buy holding this upcoming touchscreen QWERTY clamshell on its June 5th launch date. We are not sure that this handset warrants such “first day sellout hysteria” status but if have five sawbucks burning a hole in your pocket, then what do you have to lose? Those felling a bit more adventurous can try their hand at scoring an enV Touch extra early from Verizon Wireless. Several members over on Howard Forums have reported success in ordering the handset early from telesales and at least one or two have already received the phone. Rumors have been flying around over the past day or so regarding the enV Touch launch and we just confirmed that the handset will indeed launch with Verizon Wireless on June 5th. The update to the almost two-year-old Voyager will feature some much needed improvements including a 3-inch internal display with on-screen keyboard, external 3-inch screen with 800×480 resolution, 3.2 megapixel camera with Schneider-Kreuznach lens and a 3.5mm headset jack. The side-opening clamshell will also include EVDO Rev A connectivity, a document viewer, HTML Web Browser, microSDHC support and will measure 4.52H x 2.16W x 0.66D. According to our ninja we are indeed looking at $219.99 after a $70 mail-in rebate on a 2-year contract — definitely doable.
