While both phones were heavily leaked, today Nokia took the wraps off of two new Symbian-powered smartphones, the E6 and the X7. The E6 is targeted at the business bunch and sports a full QWERTY keyboard, a 2.46-inch 640 x 480 pixel touchscreen display, an 8-megapixel camera, GPS, 802.11n Wi-Fi, and a 1,500mAh battery. The X7 is no doubt the sexier of the two phones. It rocks a 4-inch 640 x 360 resolution AMOLED screen, is made of stainless steel and glass, has 8GB of storage, and offers an 8-megapixel camera capable of recording 720p HD video. The E6 and the X7 will both run Nokia’s updated Symbian “Anna” operating system which Nokia says offers a revamped user interface, new icons, improved text input, faster web browsing, and a new Ovi Maps application that includes public transportation and offers better search. Anna will also provide enterprise grade security with hardware accelerated encryption, and several new e-mail features. Both phones are scheduled to launch during the second quarter of this year; pricing information has not been divulged. If you’re looking for the X7 stateside, don’t hold your breath. Nokia E6 extends business mobility range and Nokia X7 introduces a new entertainment device for mobile gamers, both using the latest update of Symbian software

Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced the Nokia E6 and the Nokia X7, two new smartphones aimed at business people and entertainment enthusiasts respectively. The two devices are the first Nokia smartphones to contain the updated Symbian software, with new icons and usability enhancements such as improved text input, a faster browser and refreshed Ovi Maps.

“We are further strengthening Nokia’s smartphone portfolio with these two new devices, both of which offer a more beautiful and intuitive user experience that will soon also be available for the Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01,” said Jo Harlow, head of Nokia’s Smart Devices business. “With these new products and more Symbian devices and user enhancements coming in the near future, we are confident we can keep existing Nokia smartphone customers engaged, as well as attract new first-time and competitor smartphone users.”

Following on from Nokia’s highly successful Nokia E71 and Nokia E72 devices, the Nokia E6 is a sleek business smartphone with a full QWERTY keypad and a high resolution touch display. Designed using premium materials such as glass and stainless steel, the device comes in a compact size that makes it easy to use with either one hand or two. The Nokia E6 offers exceptional battery life and the best out-of-the-box Microsoft messaging experience on a business smartphone, including access to Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Communicator Mobile and Microsoft SharePoint.

According to the Maemo marketing team, it looks like it’s already in motion. Apparently Nokia still has some Nseries devices in the pipeline which will still use S60 as the operating system, but after those are out of the factory, it seems like Maemo will be the OS of choice for Nokia’s Nseries. That doesn’t mean that Nokia has plans to ditch Symbian altogether yet, as the enterprise-friendly Eseries and new Xseries will still run Symbian for the foreseeable future.

It looks like Nokia has a few tricks up its sleeve in the near future as a blurry photo reveals a number of unreleased and unannounced handsets. First is the N97 mini, which is easily distinguished from the full-sized N97 due to its lack of a d-pad on the keyboard. Next is a device that looks much like the 5800 XpressMusic, except the one pictured above (to the right of the N97 and N97 mini) has a chrome bezel. Could it be the rumored 5900XM? The white slider below the N97 mini has us baffled and yet completely uninterested. We’re also guessing that the black slider pictured to the next to the 5900XM is the same handset as the white slider, though the blur-factor makes it a bit tough to tell. Bottom line: 1) Expect a few new devices next month from Nokia World and 2) Nokia has a thing for chrome.

Well apparently that Finnish blog Puhelinvertailu opened up the flood gates as a bunch of people spent their Saturdays nights/Sunday mornings combing through Finland’s trademark database for anything Nokia-related. Much of what was found, such as a laundry list of trademarked handset names, falls into the “who cares?” category. Yes, Nokia trademarks names like Exx and Nxx so it can use them down the road. There were a few trademarks of interest uncovered however, namely a trademark for “Xseries” — meaning we now have two possible names for new lines of Nokia handsets. If we had to wager a guess: Cseries will encompass handsets that would have previously fallen into various numbered ranges (ie boring) and Xseries will cover Nokia’s upcoming line of Maemo 5-powered handsets (ie not boring). Again, that’s just speculation of course. Trademark miners managed to dig up mention of some other possibly-interesting tidbits as well, such as “Nokia Money”, a potential new platform for mobile financial transactions, and Booklet, a possible name for Nokia’s upcoming line of netbooks/smartbooks. Hopefully at least some of the products behind these trademarks will be covered by whatever Nokia plans to unveil at Nokia World.

Interesting, very interesting. We are all familiar with the branding nightmare that is Nokia’s higher-end line of phones. Eseries for business, Nseries for fun — but even fanboy blogs seem to have a tough time remembering how to spell the brands. E-series, N Series, E-Series, n series and so on. These lines have been around for long enough however, that Nokia is basically stuck with them at this point. As a matter of fact, it may even be expanding. By way of the Finnish blog Puhelinvertailu, it looks like Nokia filed a trademark application for “Cseries” back in April of this year. The new series, assuming Nokia does in fact get the trademark and make use of this new branding, could be for a number of things. We could see some of Nokia’s numbered phones, maybe the Symbian-powered models, move over to Cseries. Or perhaps we’ll see an entirely new line of Maemo devices bearing the Cseries name; we never did understand why Nokia slapped an “N” on its last two tablets. Speculation aside for the time being, the “E” in “Eseries” stands for Enterprise and the “N” in “Nseries” stand for, umm, eNtertainment? Not enterprise? Nokia? Whatever — the question here is what will the “C” in “Cseries” stand for if Nokia does in fact bring it to market?

Whether or not you’re a Nokia fan, a Symbian fan or a smartphone fan in general, there’s really no denying that Nokia’s E71 is one of the sexiest phones to ever hit the market at this point. It’s thin, sexy, functional, versatile and solid as a rock. When it comes to slim QWERTY handsets in fact, there’s probably only one we can think of that might be even sexier — the Nokia E72. As it turns out, the North American (NAM) variant of said beauty just made its way through the halls of the FCC and has been given the all-clear from the powers that be. To refresh your memory specs-wise, you’re looking at 10.2Mbps HSDPA (not in the US, of course), an integrated compass, S60 3rd Edition FP2 and a 5 megapixel camera. Need we say more? Considering the E72 is now through the FCC’s testing process we can safely make two assumptions: 1. It’s bound to hit store shelves pretty soon. 2. Nokia and AT&T should have a deal for the E72x worked out some time in 2015. Hit the jump for a few more pics.

Nokia’s numbers for Q2 are in and while the bad news outweighs the good by leaps and bounds, the good news is that, well, there is good news. First, the bad: Nokia’s Q2 operating profit was down a mind boggling 66 percent year over year to €775 million. 66 percent! Net sales dropped 25 percent YoY to €9.9 billion and EPS came in at €0.15, a 60 percent YoY decline. Ouch. On the brighter side of things, Nokia is still selling tons of phones even if it forgot how to make money in the process. The company showed a solid improvement compared to Q1 with a 7 percent increase in net sales and 103.2 million handsets shipped, up 11 percent from Q1. Global market share was somewhat of a bright spot as well, rebounding from 37 percent in Q1 to 38 percent in Q2. The 5800 XpressMusic was most definitely the shining star in Q2 just as it was in Q1; 3.7 million units sold this quarter… 6.8 million units in all… Over a million sold each month. Nokia has also hawked a total of 5 million E71s since launching the device — definitely a solid showing from a gorgeous handset. There’s one final bit of bad news unfortunately, and this where stockholders really started getting lightheaded:

• Nokia expects industry mobile device volumes in the third quarter 2009 to be at approximately the same level or up slightly sequentially.
• Nokia expects its mobile device market share in the third quarter 2009 to be approximately at the same level sequentially.
• Nokia continues to expect 2009 industry mobile device volumes to decline approximately 10% from 2008 levels.
• Nokia now expects its market share in mobile devices to be approximately flat in 2009, compared with 2008. This is an update to Nokia’s earlier target to increase its market share in mobile devices in 2009.

Nokia shares were down about 12 percent over night.

Surprise, surprise! Shortly after showing up on YouTube, Nokia has officially announced the Nokia E72 alongside the 5530 XpressMusic at Connection 2009 in Singapore. The E72 is a worthy successor to the E71 with 10.2Mbps capabilities (where networks allow, of course), an integrated compass, S60 3rd Edition FP2 and a 5 megapixel camera. In slightly less glamorous news, the 5530 will be an EDGE phone with a 3.2 megapixel camera and a 640 x 360 touchscreen, which we’re hoping will at least be resistive. Although it has Wi-Fi, there is no 3G to be found and that leaves us speechless. Seriously, Nokia? You put out a phone capable of speeds over 10Mbps and you’re still making EDGE-only phones? Ok fine, this will help make the phone insanely accessible compared to the competition but sheesh, are 3G radios that expensive? The E72 and 5530 XpresMusic will be available in the third quarter for about $489 and $278, respectively.

There’s nothing worse than being in the middle of a phone call and having your handset die on you. Or perhaps checking your work email on a long trip and having the juice run dry. This morning, Nokia broke out another Eseries device that will reportedly solve all your battery woes. The E52 boasts an impressive 8 hours of talk time and 23 days of standby. Devices like this typically offer a basic feature set but the E52 doesn’t hold back – it packs A-GPS, HSDPA/HSUPA, 3.2 megapixel camera, Mobile VPN and Exchange and Lotus Notes support. The device certainly does a hell of a lot more than refuse to die. The Nokia E52 ships later this year with a 1GB memory card and will set you back €245 (~ $326).

If you’re among the millions of E71 owners who felt somewhat slided to learn Nokia was launching an FP2-endowed variant of the handset with AT&T, just wait. According to everyone’s favorite Russian insider Eldar Murtazin, Nokia is preparing to release another new version of the device that will not only carry FP2 along with it, but a 5 megapixel camera and new color options as well. Eat your heart out E71x. As slender as the handset is, we doubt upping the megapixel count on the camera will have much of an effect on image quality — just compare the current E71′s shots to any decent 3.2 megapixel handset. At the same time, any upgrade from the current near-useless shooter is most definitely welcome. So Symbian fans, even if you were considering snagging an E71x for just a penny, you might want to reconsider before tying yourself to another 2-year contract. If you can somehow manage to wait for September or October you should have another, pretty affordable unlocked option in the E71i.

If you’ve read any of our coverage of Nokia’s E63 smartphone in the past, you likely know we’re not huge fans of this handset. Dubbed “E71 lite” here at BGR, the E63 features an E71-like form with the following downgrades: Plastic instead of metal, No GPS, a 2 megapixel camera instead of a 3.2 megapixel camera, a tiny unusable spacebar and no dedicated power or volume buttons. Boo. On the flip side of the coin however, Dell is now offering a special on unlocked E63s — likely because no one is buying them — that chops the price down to $198.39 with free shipping. If you’re looking to break into the smartphone arena with a slim entry-level handset at a good price, this deal might just help you pull the trigger. Then again, you could just wait less than a month for the E71x to drop via AT&T at $99 a pop. Yeah, that’s definitely what you should do.

Nokia made an interesting showing at CTIA this year, opting to focus almost entirely on apps and services rather than hardware. Ovi this, share that, social this, messaging that… Fair enough. A solid portfolio of value adds and supporting services is essential for the company as it continues its efforts to make the “Internet Company” branding stick, but we’ve yet to see Nokia enter the leader phase in this space. Nope, it’s still a game of catch up for the time being so for now we’re a bit more interested in what Nokia does best — handsets. Nothing that hadn’t been previously announced made a showing at the Nokia booth this year; in fact the company’s newest handset is the E71x that we scooped way back in November. It’s finally here though and it’s cheaper than we expected which definitely isn’t a bad thing. So with that, feast your eyes on the E71x after the jump, along with its relatively new unlocked brother-in-law the E75. More on Nokia to come.

Now that the E63 is a reality it’s tough to get excited about a crazy deal on a new E71 but… No, wait, we forgot. The E63 is is like the Star Wars prequels — a mistake that never should have seen the light of day. The E71 is still far and away one of the sexiest handsets Nokia has ever produced and those who haven’t had a taste can finally get one today for the more than respectable price of $289.99. The reduced price is part of Amazon’s Gold Box deal offers where a new item is offered at a steep discount every day. Think Woot without the snarky commentary. Today’s price is $37 lower than Amazon’s regular price and $60 lower than Nokia’s direct price but like we said, it’s only available today. Actually, at $290 we might just snag a handful of them to throw in a drawer until BAS for S60 is finally released. BAS on the Touch Pro is awesome but BAS on an E71 would be… Wow.

Symbian fans around the globe have been eagerly anticipating this puppy since it was first spied in a leaked product video back in September. A complete departure from currently available Nokia handsets, the E75 is an ultra-slim dual-keypad slider with a standard 0-9 pad beneath the display and a landscape QWERTY exposed by the slide. Chrome accents, sleek rounded lines, a nice wide full keyboard – it’s all good. A quick recap of the confirmed specs:
