Assuming that some day we’ll see a usable build on a more updated handset — this is awesome. Xda-developer forum member zenulator has managed to manhandle the HTC Hero’s Sense UI and stuff it into an HTC Vogue-compatible package. The Vogue, also known as the HTC Touch, is not what we would call a modern, capable handset. As such, Sense basically destroys the handset and brings a new meaning to the word ‘boggy’. Albeit 100% unusable, it’s an awesome start and a proof of concept that will hopefully light a fire under the WinMo hacking community. Think of the possibilities… HTC’s Sense UI on a Snapdragon-powered Toshiba TG01? Oh hell yeah. But back to the matter at hand, you’ll find a video of the aforementioned port below along with a link to the Google Code page. Two recommendations: 1) Don’t bother installing Sense UI just yet and 2) start the video around 3:30 to avoid a whole lot of waiting. Courtesy of the folks over at xda-developers, those sporting a variant of the HTC Touch who have a penchant for flashing ROMs can now try out HTC’s new geo-tagging Footprints feature. A new Beta ROM from NFSFAN includes a version of Manila2D with Footprints and is available for Alltel, Bell Mobility, Sprint and Verizon Wireless Touch handsets. If you don’t have a Touch and want to try out HTC Footprints, herg62123 et al has released a new version of the standalone Manila2D – a sweet Iolite version that features a Footprints tab. As always exercise caution when flashing but if you do take the plunge, boast about your success in the comments so we can all be green with envy

If you’re awaiting for the impending arrival of a CDMA version of the HTC Touch Diamond, you might want to stop and consider these spy shots. What you see above is, believe it or not, a side-by-side comparison of the GSM and CDMA HTC Touch Diamond handsets. Notice something amiss? Yeah, we see it too. The CDMA incarnation is, well, rather portly. We don’t have the official specs, but suffice to say that these real world shots paint the CDMA Touch in a bit of an unflattering light. For what it’s worth the poster seems to think that the CDMA Touch sits quite comfortably in hand. We’re not so sure, but will obviously have to reserve final judgment until we can handle one of our own. Until then, consider yourselves fairly warned.

It’s been so long that we almost stopped caring, but HTC and Sprint have come through to deliver a welcome update to the Sprint Touch. Unofficial versions of this firmware have been floating around the web for quite some time, but if you’re the sort that doesn’t like to color outside of the lines, you’ll be happy to know that the official Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for the Sprint Touch is now available directly from the HTC website. The changes and enhancements that come along with the WM 6.1 upgrade are old hat by now, but we’d still suggest updating your handset if you have the chance, as you’ll reap the benefits of EV-DO Rev. A, enhanced GPS functionality, an OEM version of Opera, and more. Hit the jump for more info!

If there’s one handset out there that’s almost as highly anticipated as the iPhone, it’s the HTC Touch Diamond. Announced in May, we’ve been waiting for an official carrier announcement here in the United States. Sprint and Verizon are rumored to be among the first to offer here, but specific dates have been elusive. According to a recently leaked slide, however, it looks like we might be in for a treat come September. Apparently, the carrier is preparing to launch the Touch Diamond as the HTC MP6950 (the current touch is the MP6900), on the 2nd of September, which is just under 2 months away for anyone counting. We’ll work on getting confirmation on this, but in the mean time you might want to salivate a bit over the Telus version,which looks to be launching about a month before we see one down this way.
