Dell unleashed a deluge of products and information upon us today. First up is some clarification on Dell’s Mini 3 smartphone. Though Dell announced its Android-powered Mini 3 handset and AT&T announced that it was getting a Dell handset yesterday, neither company confirmed the obvious — that the Dell Mini 3 is headed for AT&T. Thankfully, Dell came to its senses and confirmed today that the Mini 3 is indeed coming to AT&T. Dell also confirmed that it is working on a prototype 5 inch tablet, which looks curiously similar to the previously leaked Dell Streak. Rounding things out, Dell refreshed its PC and notebook lineup by redesigning its Inspiron series of PCs, introducing the sweet new Alienware M11x — a netbook-sized gaming machine, debuting an updated version of its Studio 14 notebook, and replacing the older Core 2 Duo with Intel’s latest Core i3, i5, and i7 processors. Today at CES 2010, Dell showcased a broad range of new products including its first ultra-mobile gaming laptop. Additionally the company provided a peek at new products, including a 5-inch tablet concept and an Android-based smart phone for AT&T, both slated for launch in 2010. Dell also refreshed its Inspiron, Studio and Alienware systems incorporating the new Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors.

From a suite at the Palms Casino Resort, Dell gave bloggers, journalists and partners an early look at the upcoming devices, further illustrating how the company is using its unique relationships with people around the world to innovate consumer electronics to be more mobile, convenient and powerful.

After a rocky start that is becoming increasingly common for the company, Dell has now officially made its new Mini 10 netbook available for order. The snazzy little netbook first appeared on the site for pre-order a few days ago, then it became available for order, then the pricing changed a few times, etc. All of the wrinkles have seemingly been ironed out now however, and Dell’s newest Mini is available at the proper (and reasonable) starting price of $399. So what does $399 get you?

In a move pretty uncharacteristic of Dell, customization options on the Mini 10 are limited at best. You’ve got a bunch of colors and the option to bump up to a 1.6GHz processor for $50 but beyond that, it is what it is. There is no option for a bigger hard drive or an SSD, no Linux option and perhaps most importantly, no option to toss in more RAM. Remember, word on the street is that there will be no way to add more RAM yourself so tread with caution. Supposedly Dell will be adding a bunch of options later this year (more RAM, Ubuntu, Vista, more hard drives, Bluetooth, GPS, WWAN and a TV tuner) so the early adopter tax is super high – but no where near as high as with the crazies who actually paid the $560 QVC price. Anyone thinking about scooping one up despite all that?

We told y’all Verizon wasn’t the only carrier looking to bring us some Netbook love. AT&T has been rumored to be exploring potential options in regards to carrying Netbooks in stores, but have a look at what one of our ninjas dug up. Yes, your eyes are not playing tricks on you. You’re looking at screen shots of AT&T’s internal system showing Dell Inspiron Mini 9′s and 12′s. There is currently no release date nor price point listed, but we’d wager they are going to go for $99 on a 2-year with data card plan just like Verizon. AT&T may even end up beating Verizon here in terms of a launch timeframe. Larger shots after the break!

Following in the footsteps of Acer and its $99 Radioshack Aspire One, Dell announced on Friday that it will be selling its Inspiron Mini 9 netbook with integrated mobile broadband for a mere $99 with a two-year AT&T LaptopConnect agreement ($60/month). Unfortunately, the $99 price tag comes after a $350 Dell Mail-in-Rebate which may scare away more than a few prospective buyers. The $99 price ends January 31st, 2009 so you have only three weeks to jump on this offer. As with the Acer deal, it really only makes sense if a LaptopConnect contract was already in your future as a $99 Mini 9 is hardly worth $720/year otherwise.

Dell announced on Thursday that it is adding two new colors and three new Tristan Eaton designs to its Inspiron Mini 9 and Mini 12 netbooks. The new colors include Cherry Red and the very feminine Pretty Pink. Dell also licensed the work of Tristan Eaton, avant garde toy designer, to produce three exclusive images that will adorn the outer casings of the Inspiron Minis. Eaton’s designs include “The Muse,” a blend of colorful patterns and the female form as well as “Stickers 1” and “Stickers 2,” which emulate the landscape of stickers you might see covering the bottom of a skateboard, the walls of CBGB’s or a lamppost in New York. Hmm, that’s a pretty sweet looking pen in that pic. Is it a Mont or a… Oh sorry, we got sidetracked. You know how it is – all these netbooks coming out and well, it’s getting a tiny bit hard to care. Tiny ones are cool as long as they pack integrated cellular radios, thin ones are instantly compared with the MacBook Air with Mac-lovers scoffing and PC-lovers insisting. Anyway, Dell just announced the second addition to it’s Mini lineup, the Inspiron Mini 12. It’s not quite as mini as the Mini 9 but it’s still pretty mini, with a profile that tapers from 24 mm to 21 mm. Yup, that instantly plops it into the category of laptops and netbooks that are compared to the MacBook Air. We’re going to go ahead and skip that part if it’s ok with you – on to the spec highlights:

• 1.3GHz Atom Z520 or 1.6GHz Atom Z530
• Windows Vista Home (XP and Ubuntu options toward the end of the year)

In terms of timing, the Mini 12 will drop in Japan first before eventually finding its way to the US late in November. Pricing will start at $600.

If you own a Dell Inspiron Mini with Ubuntu and paid extra to upgrade your hard drive from the stock 4 GB to an 8 GB or 16 GB SSD drive, you better get sudo fdisk-ing and check your partition sizes. A savvy Inspiron Mini owner noticed his 16 GB SSD was only showing up as a 4 GB inside Ubuntu. A quick check of the bios revealed that the physical drive was indeed 16 GB leaving him to wonder what happened to that extra 12 GB. He was not the only one to notice this discrepancy and bring it to the attention of Dell. It did not take Dell very long to admit there was an error in their manufacturing process. Turns out their technicians were using a disk image for a 4 GB install on each and every one of their Ubuntu machines. In other words, all 8 GB and 16 GB machines were partitioned as 4 GB machines. Oops! As of Friday, Dell announced that each and every new Ubuntu system will be installed with the correct partition size. Yay! Dell has kindly offered a solution to the problem if you are one of the unlucky early adopters: use your system restore disk to repartition your disk and re-install Ubuntu. If you are a Linux junkie, then you can attempt to resize your partition with gParted and skip the whole re-installation hassle process. Whichever method you choose be sure to backup your data first, ok? Wouldn’t want anyone to lose the one and only picture of dear Aunt Ethel at her 100th birthday celebration in the backyard of her beautiful Victorian house on the day before it was unexpectedly destroyed by a hurricane. Of all the details that Dell could have omitted from the launch of its Inspiron Mini 9, we would think that one of the mini-notebook’s most distinguishing features might have made it to the table. According to Dell spokeswoman Anne Camden, Dell’s new tiny dancer is packing an integrated 3G card. Talk about easter eggs! While there isn’t much detail to be found from Dell, the fact that Vodaphone has already announced that it will be offering the Mini 9 leads us to believe that we’re talking about a tri-band card here. Presumably it will play nicely in Europe and here in the US we’re going to assume that it’s packing 850 MHz for use on AT&T’s high-speed networks. Considering you can now pick up a unit for as little as $99, the story just keeps getting better as far as we’re concerned. Dell is likely in talks right now with a certain US carrier (the reason for Dell’s silence perhaps) and it will be interesting to see what comes of it. Of note, Dell’s Inspiron Mini 9 is said to have a battery life in the three-hour range with no mention of 3G. We can only imagine what will happen when users start streaming video and whatnot over 3G. Ouch.

We almost forgot what it was like outside the mobile phone game. You know: Leak -> Wait -> Official announcement -> Wait -> Launch! Sure plenty has been leaked as far as Dell’s latest lappy is concerned, but kudos are still in order. Just yesterday we learned that the Inspiron Mini 9 was set to be announced this week and bam; today they’re ready to order. There is a downside of course, but isn’t there always? The size is great, the gear is great but the battery is… Not so great. Basically you’re looking at about three hours of juice before the Mini 9 starts coughing and needs another fix. Yikes. The good news is that this little sucker is so small that you should have absolutely no problem fitting a heafty external battery pack in your back with it. Does that defeat the purpose? Hmm, your call.

UPDATE: If you purchase a Studio 15, XPS M1530 or XPS M1330 laptop between 6 am (Central) tomorrow and 6 am (Central) Tuesday September 9th, you can snag a Mini 9 along with it for only $99. Woo!

The Dell mini notebook that we first laid eyes on back in May looks to be all set to become official this week. Geared towards web surfing and light usage, Dell’s Inspiron 910 could be quite an entry into the mini notebook space. While specs have yet to become official, there is a good deal being reported at this point and everything is looking pretty on point. Apparently the sub-10 inch notebook will weigh in around 2.2 pounds and will sport an 8.9 inch screen and three USB 2.0 ports. The guts will include a 1.6 GHz Atom processor, up to 1 GB of RAM, integrated WiFi and a built-in camera. It also looks like the Inspiron 910 will sport SSD for storage and will vary in size up to 16 GB. Of course 16 GB isn’t going to get you very far these days even in a netbook, so rumor has it that Dell has worked out a deal with online storage leader Box.net to include a cloud storage solution out of the box. Stuff all that into a portable that is said to start under $400 and you may very well have a winner on your hands – even in candy apple red (don’t worry, it’ll be available in black as well).

In a sign that proves just how much the general public dislikes Windows Vista, Dell has announced that they have postponed their kill date for Windows XP from today until June 26th. Interested consumers can still purchase an XP-laden Dell system until 7 AM Eastern time on the 26th, after which point Vista will be your only Microsoft OS option. The extension only applies to three versions of Dell’s Inspiron 530, as well as the XPS 630. If you’ve been thinking about a grabbing a Dell, and hate Windows Vista, we suggest you head on over to the company’s site quickly, as time is most certainly running out.

Dell’s upcoming Mini Inspiron is a nod to the relevance of the Eee space as Dell has apparently realized that they need be playing in kiddie pool. Its first entry, a sub-$500 UMPC, is presumably Windows-powered and looks to be a solid entry into the space, barring the candy coated shell. Specs are a bit scarce at the moment but we can all recognize Dell knows how to build a computer so this will likely be workable. For the time being, all we can tell you is what’s on the outside. Three USB ports, an ethernet port, VGA out and a card reader. Exact size is unknown as well but Dell press shots show that it’s just a bit wider than a standard pencil. Translation: that’s one tiny keyboard! For the teeny PC market this will surely make a splash however, and it’ll match your lip stick.
