Apple released iOS 4.3.4 on Friday in an effort to fix a security vulnerability that was present on both the iPhone and the iPad. The fix was supposed to prevent hackers from using a PDF security hole to jailbreak both devices. That didn’t quite work. The next day iPhone Dev Team was able to route around the security fix and issued a jailbreak tool for iOS 4.3.4. iPhone Dev Team has released the latest redsn0w jailbreak tool, but unfortunately it forces iOS 4.3.4 users to keep their iPhone or iPad tethered to their computer during sync and reboot. In other words, if you haven’t already updated to iOS 4.3.4 and want your iPhone or iPad to remain jailbroken, you’re going to be best off sticking with iOS 4.3.3 until another workaround is found.

Kudos to the iPhone dev team as member @Planetbeing has successfully unlocked the iPhone 4. The proof is in the picture above, which shows Bell Canada as the carrier for the iPhone 4, an impossible situation made possible by a successful carrier unlock (as the iPhone 4 has not been released in Canada). Eager iPhone 4 owners looking to duplicate this task themselves will have to wait, as the tools for the unlocking are not yet available for public consumption and most likely won’t be until after Apple releases it impending “antenna fix” update. Stay tuned and we will let you know when the unlocking tools finally drop.

Sick of Apple iPad news yet? Here’s one more we couldn’t resist… It’s not a secret that both the regular Wi-Fi iPad and now iPad Wi-Fi + 3G are jailbroken, but what’s really interesting is that the world-famous iPhone Dev Team has managed to get the native SMS application from the iPhone working on the iPad. Oh, it’s viciously transplanted for now, but be honest, if they can get this going properly, who wouldn’t want an SMS app on their new iPad? Whether you can actually send or receive messages on AT&T in general is another story. Video is after the jump!

To be perfectly honest we’re surprised it took this long. Reports are surfacing that Apple is now shipping a new bootrom with the iPhone 3GS that is resistant to the 24kpwn exploit used by the Dev-Team and others to jailbreak the iPhone. DevTeam member MuscleNerd confirms that the bootrom update, dubbed iBoot-359.3.2, would make jailbreaking new iPhone’s “impossible” for the time being. Man, does Apple hate when people muck with the iPhone or what! Your move Dev Team — and godspeed. Or maybe our ninja GeoHot can find a way around it? We’ll see!

Are you the proud owner of a second generation iPod Touch that’s been a feeling a bit… left out as of late? Thanks to some recent developments on the part of the industrious iPhone Dev team, you’ll soon be able to jailbreak your device, bringing its hacked-ness up to par with the rest of Apple Touch screen devices. The organization has been alluding to an impending jailbreak for quite some time, but just yesterday released some screen shots giving us a bit more insight into their process. Apparently, the actual jailbreaking is still “far too manual” for most consumers, but the fine folks are promising a streamlined GUI-ed application in the very near future. While refusing to give any specific timeline, the dev team has assured us that they are “putting a lot of energy into it”, so we’re guessing that the ETA won’t drag too far into the distant future.

A link in the post directs you to a webpage for new project, redsn0w, which apparently contains an image of the iPod Touch 2G processor in the center of the star and shows a young girl playing Tic Tac Toe with her dog. Keep your eyes peeled for a big announcement coming next Sunday.
