Tap Tap Tap recently announced that it has sold 2 million copies of its popular “Camera+” iPhone photography application. In a blog post, Tap Tap Tap principal John Casasanta noted a couple of compelling figures about sales of the app. First: Just 5% of Camera+ customers purchased the $0.99 “I ♥ Analog” filter each day.  In contrast, more than half of Camera+ users apply new updates within 6 days of a release. Casasanta admitted the low sales could be because Camera+ doesn’t aggressively push the in-app upgrades, but he noted that those in-app purchases pull in about $70k over a 4.5 month period — a figure that’s relatively small compared to Camera+ sales. “There are companies with free photography apps that are trying to have their business models revolve around selling effects via in-app purchases, but it’s very unlikely that this can be an effective business model,” Casasanta said. We’d be interested to know if gaming developers feel the same way.

Everyone loves a good Easter Egg and it looks like Google decided to add a few little treats to one of its iPhone apps. The Google Mobile App has some hidden menus that allow you to access a few fairly useless but entertaining features. It takes some perseverance but if you continue to swipe upward on the “About” screen, a new menu item “Bells and Whistles” will appear. Click on the new “Bells and Whistles” menu and you will be able to change the color of the application, change the default sound to a monkey or a chicken, select a waveform to appear when you talk and set the option to open links within the application (the one useful feature). You Google-loving BlackBerry users have a new app to install on your handset as Google has officially launched its Google Mobile App for BlackBerry. More or less an aggregator/launcher, the app bundles Google search together with Google’s other BlackBerry apps and its online mobile services. Integrated within a single interface is Google Mail for BlackBerry, Google Maps for BlackBerry, and Google Sync for BlackBerry. If you setup your Google username and password, you can also get one-click access to Google News, Google Reader, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Picasa Web albums and Google notebook. Finally, no more annoying login screens (yay!) which may be the most compelling reason to download this simple launcher masquerading as a full fledged app.
