Apple has confirmed that the company has sold a mind-numbing number of iPhone 4S devices in pre-orders, over one million of them. The previous record was from last year’s iPhone 4 launch which totaled over 600,000 in one day. Apple had a larger amount of global carrier partners for this year’s launch, including Verizon and Sprint in the U.S., but that doesn’t take away from how incredibly impressive this is. iPhone 4S Pre-Orders Top One Million in First 24 Hours

CUPERTINO, California—October 10, 2011—Apple® today announced pre-orders of its iPhone® 4S have topped one million in a single day, surpassing the previous single day pre-order record of 600,000 held by iPhone 4. iPhone 4S is the most amazing iPhone yet, packed with incredible new features including Apple’s dual-core A5 chip for blazing fast performance and stunning graphics; an all new camera with advanced optics; full 1080p HD resolution video recording; and Siri™, an intelligent assistant that helps you get things done just by asking.

iPhone 4S will be available at all 245 Apple retail stores in the US beginning at 8 a.m. local time on Friday, October 14. Every customer who buys an iPhone 4S at an Apple retail store will be offered free Personal Setup service, helping them customize their iPhone 4S by setting up email, showing them new apps from the App Store™ and more, so they’ll be up and running with their new iPhone before they leave the store.

iPhone 4S includes iOS 5, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system with over 200 new features, and iCloud®, a breakthrough set of free cloud services that work seamlessly with your iPhone, iPad®, iPod touch®, Mac® or PC to automatically and wirelessly store your content in iCloud and push it to all your devices.

iPhone 4S comes in either black or white and will be available in the US for a suggested retail price of $199 (US) for the 16GB model and $299 (US) for the 32GB model and $399 (US) for the new 64GB model.* iPhone 4S will be available from the Apple Online Store, Apple’s retail stores and through AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, and select Best Buy, Target and Walmart stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers. iPhone 4 is available for just $99 (US) and iPhone 3GS is available for free with a two year contract.

iPhone 4S will roll out worldwide to 22 more countries by the end of October including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

While Samsung’s tablets continue to run into Apple-shaped walls abroad, the South Korea-based electronics giant’s latest Android tablet is now available for pre-order at Best Buy here in the U.S. Announced at CTIA back in March, the GALAXY Tab 8.9 is positioned between Samsung’s 7-inch tablet and its flagship 10.1-inch slate, the GALAXY Tab 10.1. It runs Android 3.1 Honeycomb and includes 1GB of memory along with either 16GB or 32GB of storage, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera and an 8.9-inch WXGA display. Both Tab 8.9 models are now available for pre-order on Best Buy’s website, and pricing lines up with the previously announced $469.99 (16GB) and $569.99 (32GB) price points. No launch date is provided on the Best Buy website.

Thanks to a leaked document from a Best Buy source, we have discovered that Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores are anticipating taking preorders for the iPhone 5 starting in the first week of October. What’s a tad bit more interesting, however, is the mention (and further anticipation) that Sprint will be carrying the iPhone 5 at launch. Best Buy makes sure to note that Apple product introduction and launch dates are subject to change, but a preorder date changing is pretty different from a new carrier getting a phone for the first time.

UPDATE: Our source clarified that it’s actually possible presales will be starting this week with the phone arriving in the first week of October, not preorders starting in October.

The HP TouchPad 4G with HSPA+ support is now available for pre-order from Amazon. The online retailer doesn’t give a specific launch date and instead says “this item has not yet been released,” and that customers “may pre-order it now and [Amazon] will deliver it to you when it arrives.” The TouchPad made its debut on July 1st as a Wi-Fi only device with a 1.2GHz processor. In our review we said the device was “just good” and that its software needed a “shot of adrenaline.” However, AT&T’s upcoming version will sport a faster 1.5GHz processor, the aforementioned HSPA+ support and HP’s latest webOS 3.0.2 software. Amazon is currently listing the TouchPad 4G for $699.99, which means you’ll be paying a big premium for 4G, but that’s also probably before any AT&T’s subsidies.

Right on schedule, Hewlett-Packard’s first webOS-powered tablet is now available for pre-order. The HP TouchPad becomes available on July 1st but those who want to ensure they get their supersized webOS fix as soon as possible can pre-order the device through a number of different retailers. Best Buy and Amazon, among others, have the TouchPad available for pre-order at $499 for the 16GB model and $599 for the 32GB model, as expected. BGR took a hands-on look at the TouchPad when it was first unveiled back in February, and we were impressed. WebOS translates very well to a large form device, and the interoperability with HP’s upcoming Pre 3 smartphone is fantastic, though we still have no word on when HP might launch the Pre 3.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Honeycomb tablet is now available for pre-order from J&R. The 16GB tablet is priced at $499.99 while the 32GB version will set you back an additional $100. Here’s a quick rundown of its specs: it offers a 10.1-inch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution, a 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, full 1080p HD playback, a 3-megapixel camera capable of recording 720-p video, a 2-megapixel forward-facing camera for video chats, and more. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 also happens to be the thinnest tablet on the market right now. RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook will make its U.K debut on June 16th. The 7-inch QNX-powered tablet will be available from a number of retailers, including Phones 4u and The Carphone Warehouse, and the 16GB model will start at £399.95 ($648). iPhone 4u will also sell a 64GB version online for £559.95 ($907), while The Carphone Warehouse will also carry a third 32GB model for £479 ($777). We just got off the phone with a number of RadioShack locations, and each one has confirmed that the retailer is now quietly taking pre-orders for Sprint’s HTC EVO 3D. We were told that, interested users should rush to the store as pre-order quantities are very limited. Employees did not confirm when the EVO 3D would be available for pickup, although we suspect it won’t be a very long wait. Best Buy also began taking pre-orders earlier this month, but it too neglected to reveal when the phone would become available. We went hands-on with the EVO 3D during CTIA and were impressed by its glasses-free 3D display. We also loved the solid, albeit beefy, industrial design.

The HTC Sensation is now available for pre-order from Vodafone UK, and the carrier says early birds should have the phone in their hands as soon as May 19th. We had a chance to go hands-on with the Sensation early last month and fell in love with the phone. It runs a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and packs HTC’s brand new Sense user interface, an 8-megapixel camera capable of recording 1080p HD video, 4GB of internal storage, and a stunning 4.3-inch qHD display. It’s scheduled to land on T-Mobile with HSPA+ connectivity, too, although a launch date hasn’t been announced — we’ve only heard rumors it could be available as soon as June 8th.

We just received confirmation that RadioShack has begun accepting pre-orders for RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. You can reserve yours for now $499, and RadioShack says it will be available starting on April 19th. The PlayBook sports a 7-inch touchscreen display with 1024 x 600-pixel resolution. It’s powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor, runs RIM’s sleek new QNX operating system designed for tablets, has 1GB of RAM, and offers both a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera and a 3-megapixel forward-facing camera for video chat. We’ve had plenty of hands-on time with the PlayBook and are excited by the concept, but we’ll take a much deeper dive once we review the device. Sprint’s new dual-screen Kyocera Echo is now available for pre-order from RadioShack. The Echo sports two different displays for a total 4.7-inches of touchscreen real estate. The Echo’s second screen can be used to run two applications at once, as a full QWERTY keyboard, or to enhance gameplay. The Android 2.2 (Froyo) powered smartphone is also capable of creating a Wi-Fi hotspot, which allows you to share the Echo’s 3G connection with other Wi-Fi enabled devices. The Kyocera Echo, Sprint’s new Android 2.2 (Froyo) smartphone — with two displays stacked on top of one another, Nintendo DS style — is now available for pre-order. Interested customers can reserve the Echo for $199.99, after a $100 mail-in rebate, for delivery on April 17th. We went up close with the Echo during CTIA last week, and we enjoyed the device’s second screen — which can double as a large touchscreen keyboard, enhance game-play, and more. We finally have a confirmed release date and price, ladies and gentlemen. RIM just announced that its first tablet device — the BlackBerry PlayBook — will be available for purchase on April 19th and will start at $499 for the 16GB version. 32GB and 64GB models will also be available at launch, and will retail for $599 and $699, respectively. The BlackBerry PlayBook is scheduled to be available on April 19th from all Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile stores in the U.S., and at Best Buy and Future Shop stores up north in Canada. Ok, look, you didn’t stay up until 3AM last week to preorder it, we understand. People get tired, they have other things to do besides wait up until the wee hours of the morning for a cell phone. Today, however, there are no more excuses if you’re someone that is planning on ordering a Verizon iPhone.
